Thumbs up Impressed With Mobil Synergy 8000

My Fiesta on Vortex/Optimax would average 40mpg.
Mobil has just started selling Synergy 8000 in QLD. Fiesta is averaging 45mpg. IMPRESSED !!!
So, I have filled my Fairmont V8 with it, see how it goes over a couple of tankfuls.
Anyone else had similar results ?

I've generally found Mobil to be the best, followed by BP, then Caltex with Shell dead last.

I haven't tryed the mobil stuff but I like BP Ultimate. The optimax 100 ron seems to go really well in my car too but the optimax 98 octane is crappy. Haven't really had much experience with the Vortex 98.

I put Optimax Extreme 100 RON in the Fiesta once, never will again.

It would simply not start first go. Turn the key... it'd shake and such. Turn it again, a bit of accelerator pumping etc, it would start. And it would idle really poorly, shake around and ****, for 30 sec or so then calm down. I was pretty freaked out when that first happened.

Funnily enough, I got my best ever economy on that stuff, 6.06L/100km, combined city/highway with a/c on.

My little datto roadster is a pretty good test machine for fuels. It has a 2 litre over head cam motor (U20) with a couple of mikuni side draught carbs. It has a compression ratio of about 10.5 to 1. Factory specs say 150bhp at 6000 rpm. It runs best on AVGAS. But because I am too lazy to go to the airport to get it, I always use BP98. Its the only fuel, other than AVGAS that doesnt ping. All the other brands of high octane fuel all ping and shell is the worst. The rest are about equal second. I always run the XR8 on BP98.

Wierd, worst experiene i have ever had is with mobil 8000. similar to what u got with the optimax extreme. maybe we both got crappy batches, might have to give the mobil a whirl again.

Optimax Extreme 100 RON is 10% ethanol. Ford doesn't recommend ethanol based fuels in Fiesta or Focus. That is why your car ran crap.

Extreme is 5% not 10.

I still believe Shell is the worst, normal Optimax isn't that great either. What's interesting though is the fuel economy that resulted from the Extreme.

shell is based on a detergent... it may clean, but it degrades and eats away... creates suds and stuff...
i only use bp or caltex... found them to give better performance, especially in the mazda, and also slightly better economy, given the extra performance...

I'll only ever use MOBIL SYNERGY in the EA.....Runs awesome!. Had to put Shell Optimax in one day and it pinged it's brain out!.

Unless your car is tuned for higher octane, there isnt that much point using 98 ron fuel. You may get a slight advantage economy-wise and it MIGHT clean your engine little better, but with today's prices, you are probably better off with a decent brand regular ULP.

Since mine is tuned for it, I used BP Ultimate 98 as a first choice and Mobil Synergy as a second choice. We dont have Optimax here in SA but I wouldnt touch it if we did have it. I have used it in Vic and once was enough. My partner, a Ford mechanic, ran his AU XR8 on Optimax for a while when he lived in Vic and then checked all through his engine. A colleague of his did the same thing. What they found put them off that rubbish and he has never used it since.

Steffo, what are you doing putting Extreme in a Fiesta???? Not only is it a waste of money for a car like that, the ethanol in it is a killer! No wonder it didnt start!

After much testing and number crunching i have ended up using BP 95 or 98 in the ute always.Caltex second choice where i am.

Ive found BP Ultimate gives the best results in the xrt, economy wise it aint so great, get about 290-320km out of a tank. Optimax sux power wise but it sees me 340-350km out of a tank. Synergy gives poor economy and semi-decent power results. Overall the car now doesnt see anything but Ultimate, it *****s me to tears using the other fuels and not getting that response down low!

Mobil Synergy is very good. I switch between BP ultimate and Synergy due to servo locations. Optimax makes the XB run like a dog. Won't even idle properly with optimax. I had to put some optimax in as a last resort last week. Not good :(

I have a FIESTA and the owners manual says to use PULP. Its a European car., like BMW, Benz, etC they all run on PULP. Still getting great mpg out of Synergy 8000.

Well, the mix is low. I wanted to see what it was like. I didn't expect it to do what it did, especially since these engines are available in countries where the only petrol you can get is E10 10% ethanol.

Never putting any of that stuff in again though.

on a related note yesterday I bought a 20L plastic jerry can to get some BP ultimate for my GT and after I put 20 litres of fuel in the jerry I noticed it was about 3cm below the 20L mark on the container. I cant say I was surprised, I meanhow the heck would anyone know if they made it 800-900ml instead of full litre ? I rang and complained to their customer relations number and he was the rudest mother ******er ! His main defence was " those jerry cans are notoriously incorrect".. WTF ? there were several different makes on the shelf when I bought one, are they all incorrect ? bloody crooks

my car goes like a bat outta hell with Ultimate, second is synergey 8000 but it looses its legs about 200rpm less than ultimate, and shell well i wouldnt even use it to clean dirty car parts

Yep, true. And a lot of Japanese cars like to run on 95+ from factory. Mainly because where they are made, their fuel is of a much better grade as standard... ie their "regular" fuel is 95, say... Just that we have rubbish fuel here.

Maybe we could learn something re Europe and Japan when it comes to the fuel in this country. But I guess they pay a lot more for theirs.

You’ll find that when they manufacture these there has to be a certain level of ullage space to allow for expansion of fuel when it’s hot. You shouldn’t even be filling one of these at a servo anyway. The plastic doesn’t allow for the static charge to dissipate. If you could be bothered, measure exactly one litre from a measuring cup, fill it with water and put twenty of these in it and see how much ullage space there is. You’ll probably be surprised.

i just filled up the T with ultimate yesterday, done 180km's and only used 1/4 tank u must live on WOT

ive been running optimax for the last 7 months. and its been really had to start up in the morning and runs like a bag of **** until its warm. didnt occour to me it might be the fuel.anyways, topped up with ultimate the other day and there was a definate improvment. cant wait to fill up again now and work all the optimax out of the system.

I have been using ONLY Mobil Synergy 8000 and Shell 100. Runs fine on both, I honestly cannot make too many complaints about the Shell 100 except the price at times.
I can say that Shell Optimax 95 is crap.
Last time I pulled out the fuel filter, all contents inside was crystal clear like water.

I'm amazed you can all pick so much of a difference b/w the brands of fuel....They are all made to the Australia Standard.

I can't wait to get the good Caltex 98 down here in Vic - I'm stuck with a Caltex Fuel card and their premium is only 95/6

mobile 8000 works the best in everything imo, I ran optimax in my car once when there wsa no mobile around and the thing ran like ****, I had to put half a bottle of octane boost in it to bring it up to what I get out of 8000.

I was going to try it with water but I'll take your word for it mate..why wouldnt you be able to fill it at a servo ? it is a proper jerry can/container not a generic container..

I think you will find it in Port a Gutta...as for the tuning and higher RON the computer will self adjust....my ute was made for 91ron but when I run it on 95/98 it gets better economy and a bit more oomphh.
