Default cheap mafs for au v8s

I was put onto this by a person on another ford forum apparently works on our aussie au v8s as a cheap upgrade for our cars instead of paying hundreds for a second hand xr maf thought id post up here see if people have used them or if they work and if so why bother going over priced second hand.

90mm is too big for most applications?

You cant just put on this maf and expect your car to run correctly, the eec has to be reprogrammed to suit it, whichever which method you want to use, meaning SCT flash tuning, or Quarterhorse or so on.

Basically the factory maf vs this maf, the air flow vs voltage output is roughly half with this compared to what your factory maf is, untuned it would therefore be telling the EEC that your only pulling a rough half the amount of air and therefore would only supply half the amount of fuel, basically either the car will not run, or if it does it'll be very dangerously lean, and over advanced ignition timing. Its a given that if you could still drive it, you would destroy your engine.

So a tune is a must.

Not that it wouldnt work (albeit the steps above), but this MAF appears to be built for Modular V8s anyway.

A maf sensor is well a maf sensor weather it come on a modular v8 on OHV it is still the same type of sensor, the ability to use one on a different engine comes down to being able to fit it mechanically and the transfer function of that individual maf being set to suit in the eec.

I myself run a 80mm maf off a 4.6l modular v8 mustang on my ED 5litre V8.

Exactly what 5.0 ED has said, but if you decide to buy and run one of these MAFs (as I do), apart from the tune, you will also be up for MAF to filter adapter and new intake piping. Not a lot of point going to the expense of a 90mm MAF when you have a 65mm or 70mm Throttle Body.

Another option is the V6 Explorer MAF, same as a standard AU MAF suited to 24lb injectors.
