Default Not the average Police Car *pics*

Never really noticed how sexy these cars look until now. :

That would suck having a turbocharged suby chasing you.
Its a new tactic US police are adopting, sleeper patrol cars since all the other police vehicles are crown vics and you can spot them a mile away.

On a similar note, has anybody noticed here in Australia cops starting to use other manufacturer vehicles as patrol cars other than Ford/Holden and the occasional hilux?

I've seen a few Magna cop cars and 1 Chrysler paddywagon! I think it was one of the new 300C's or something. Very impressive. :

i have a bit of a thing for the Subaru Liberty myself. if i had the dosh i wouldnt think twice about getting one either. there is going to be a limited run of turboed Libertys coming to Aus soon which will actually sit at the top of the Subaru power tree...above the Impreza STi.

There was a point, around 5 years ago when the police down here in vic started getting into WRX cop cars. Think they stooped using them because they were to expensive to buy and the cops were abusing them.

love the liberties hey... especially the models just gone, like the b4... they are such anice car to drive... just feel so luxurious... and theyve still got some poke... would like a 3l h6 one though... hehe...
apparently the speedos and the radar guns in the rexies were out of whack... and they were being absolutely thrashed... thats why they never came up here...
seen a new hyundai sonata the other day, fully marked...

The TMU wasn't a big fan of the WRX's, as the SS/XR8's killed them in get up and go, also the WRX's too small in inside for cops and all their gear. The common statement from TMU was they were go carts, great in wet and around town but out on the open road not much chop.

No, they stopped using them because an adult male wearing a police equipment belt could not fit in the seats. Also, the vehicle overall was not really large enough for two police to work together by the time both had all their equipment in the car.

Could be worse, imagine having this pop up in your rear view mirror after a little too much throttle.

Personally I think all Government vehicles should be Australian made only. Protect the local industry. Falcon/Commodore make fine police cars, and the utes are as good a paddy wagon as anything else.

Besides, if they want to make something discrete... a black XR8 or SS will annahilate one of those and won't arouse too much suspicion... not like the usual white, hubcapless LPG XTs that you see as unmarked cars.

As for the Americans, they do lack good sedan vehicles to use. Though there's the CTS-V and STS-V Cadillacs, and the upcoming CTS Super V (505hp LS7 in a CTS), but other then upmarket vehicles, their sedan options are extremley poor.

Perhaps a sports, AWD, turbo Ford FiveHundred (which is a Mazda 6 anyway) based on the Mazda 6 MPS would be a good alternative for the American police. And their sports sedan segment in general.

A MPS isnt AWD, its FWD until it starts losing traction :

As for that Subaru, bet it works well as a sleeper :

Hey,

I'm not 100% certain but around 99.9+ that I saw an unmarked white GT-P with 2 cops in it the other day cruising near Wollongong on N.S.W. South Coast. It's easy to see the Government's not worried about the fuel prices!!!! :
