Time to reveal a little of other interests I have.
Donald Harkness was the first Australian to achieve 100 mp/h over a measured mile. In 1933 he undertook an endurance trial across northern Australia. Clearly a part was required urgently for one of the vehicles. The PMG was the fastest option but as the item weighed 32lbs, too heavy for the Post Office parcel post system so the postage was charged as a letter. The postage totals £17.1.4 when the average weekly wage was £4. With today's average weekly wage over $1,250, this represents the equivalent of $5,416 postage. It repesents the highest intact postage value from the era and having been found in the bottom of a 'junk box' 15 years ago and could be yours for the princely sum of $135,000 (neg). ebay link here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/The-Donal...item2edb0b9f4e story half way down this page: http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=59604 NF

I'm just amused that those little "By Air Mail Par Avion" stickers are still exactly the same all these years later.
