on topic one of the Ford racing cars of the century for me. Shape, livery just ticks all the boxs. Sure the winning MFD 1-2 is more desirable but nonetheless that era is GOLD for me.

Hi guys
I was a big fan of Allan Moffat and if i had the money i would buy his old XA Coupe. Its part of Australian Motoring Racing History thats why somebody brought Peter Brock's Torana XU1. |

Just sitting here dreaming and was wondering if anyone had purchased or remembers this XR
Standard Gold XR specs but with 5 slotters and caps , the unusual thing is that someone had fitted an round Sanyo radio in the dash and cut out a 4 inch hole to fit it into over the original radio location .The Rego was JTJ 444 and I sold it around 1976 for $4500 , I would love to see a pic of it if it still survived , sorry thats the only info i have on it . |

moffat cars are a dime a dozen. take your old 351 out and about and you'll have heaps of old guys wandering up to you telling you how they used to own a special edition falcon that belonged to either alan moffat or dick johnson.

I can't see the picture as i don't have facebook but i take it this is a road car?? as the XA was wrecked at Phillip Island ( i was there and witnessed a bad day at the races ) he then got Freddies XA which ended up being the XB and finally the XC racing coupe. Si doubt the validity of this car.

GT450, I don't do FB either but the top link you can view it, well I can.
Whats quoted in it : This is genuine 1973 XA matching number Ford GT. This was built by Allan Moffats race team to replace his Bathurst winning coupe with fully rebuilt race spec engine as he crashed his race day one. Allan Moffat has signed the engine bay. Looking at expressions of interest at this stage. Nah its a race one not a street regoed one by the pics. Not fussed about it being legit the FB ad per say, just looking for the heck.

One of the photos in the add is from from Wikipedia stating it's a replica....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Moffat Replica of the Ford XA Falcon GT Hardtop in which Moffat and Ian Geoghegan won the 1973 Hardie-Ferodo 1000

FTE217 it was my poster car at the time and will always be one of my favourites. I can't see
why Moffats workshop would build one when he ended up with Freds coupe which morphed into the later models as required, if you built a new one wouldn't you race that? He was never a man to use his own money on race cars if could avoid it so something doesn't gel here. None the less the Superbird was always a favourite. |

What’s with the side-drought carby setup on this car?

I don't get all this bogus stuff myself, there is a pic of AM signing the firewall. Yet other pics of the engine bay you can't see the sig, pics taken prior I guess who knows. He's sitting in front of this car and pic him in it. Is it all photo shopped/fake, buggered if I know. Yes very true about the side draft carbies. All in all as said I'm not fussed but damn, it looks s hit hot.

Yes FTE217 it was Moffat who lit the fire for me and it has been burning ever since. My Mum , now in care, and my late Dad were big fans and one of the reasons i never missed a Bathurst form 1976 up until covid 2020 and likely again this year. My Dad had a white XA GT manual coupe and i loved that car dearly. My little sister , who is the partner of a wonderful Ford legend , tells me she sees Allan occasionally and last time he wasn't too bad.
The days when GT Falcons , L34 Toranas and E39 Chargers used to line the streets of Bathurst during race week were great times and bring back fond memories but this particular model racecar was the huge poster in my bedroom and when it was wrecked at the Island i was shattered, and it also was when the factory pulled out of racing leaving The Boss to carry th flag with Murray Carter and John Goss. |

In 1973 the rules changed a bit and that was one of them..
You could change the factory induction but had to retain the factory inlet manifold. Webbers seemed to be the go.. Peter brock had a mad set up on his XU1. Bond went for 2" cd's instead of the 1"and 3/4 from memory.. That set up worked well for the 4 barrel carby cars as they did run them for a while.. The holden V8's ran 2 down draft webbers.. Funny thing was the 6cyl charger ran them from the factory.. |
