Just as a matter of interest after giving some bloke a lift to get fuel tonight, poor bugger it was a 5k walk and he wasnt tiny either, have you pulled over to help someone on the side of the road...

I am quite an expert in changing tyres for female drivers.......

A few weeks ago i was sitting behind an AU at a roundabout, the AU stalled so i was stuck behind it.. he started pushing the car so i put my car on the side of the road and gave him a hand to push it through the roundabout.
He proceeded to call RACV so i left him to it.

only other thing i can think of was when i seen a commodore go sliding off the road and bush bashing in wet weather, pulled over to make sure they were alright and if they wanted any help.

Well my dad did once when I was in the car with him like 2 years ago, some lady had a flat tyre, she was like 45 though and not hot so I didn't help, lol. Have had the favour returned when my dads battery went so dead it cut out going down a hill and couldn't even jump, got a lift home.

Did he get a ride in the Minginator?

Had friends with a very sad example of an unloved XF, 3 times I saw them broken down on the side of the M5 but at at 110kph your past them before you see them, so by the time I'd got to the toll gate and rung them the NRMA was almost there. They swear it was deliberate, no-one will ever know for sure..

Once helped out a bloke who had an accident, was up around Tweed Heads and raining. Gave him a lift to the next town.
2 other times have stopped to help a damsel in distress, only to be told the NRMA is on the way.

Yep, late at night after finishing a 2nd job, I passed a car parked in the middle of nowhere. A km or 2 up the road, I saw a light being waved eratically, and I pulled over. Some woman had broken down, and was trying to get another car to stop, and after numerous attempts, she had started to walk home. So I gave her a lift home.

Turns out, she was a customer of my mate's workshop... and the car arrived there the next day on the back of a tow truck. She was amazed when my mate could describe what happened to her the night before and how she made it home....

As a rule I dont pickup hitchhikers, but if people are stuck I certainly do pull over and ask if they need help etc etc.

Last summer on a 40C day I was returning home to collect the lady, passed an EB wagon parked-bonnet up on the side of the road. They looked fine, so I proceeded past them to my place where collected the lady and started our journey (which lead past them). They were still there 20 mins after I first saw them. It was a scorching hot day (for vic) so we agreed to go and get them some water and ice creams and go back. Sure enough they were there and even had a dog. We dropped of our various calipos and a few Litres of water. They had already called the RACV using a nearby persons house phone. They were all very much appreciative (even the dog). As we were leaving, another car stopped with a bottle of water and an old ice cream container (seems we weren't the only ones who had the idea).

I've stopped loads of times to help people, sometimes I've had to park my car at accidents to block a road (some people will try and drive through anything!).

yeh i did once dunoo if i did again was at the carwash, and a bloke was washing his vk he just bought for his mrs and points were wet, car wouldnt start he was bout 10 k from home and i was going that way so im like ok, i shouldnt of cos of the way hes telling me hes a dealer, and i want any good stuff 2 give him a call im like' noo' he goes drop me off @ my house in laverton when i drop him of theres bout 10 maoris out the front looking at me and my car, lets say the way i took off even ambrose wouldnt of kept up with me

I have pulled up for people who have broken down and others who have been in accidents, but I have also had people stop to help me. One time that springs to mind is when I had an old AP6 Valiant which blew up after splitting the radiator between Townsville and Charters Towers. I was walking back into Townsville with a hangover that would kill a kid and no water in summer. A truck driver pulled up and gave me a lift right to the door of a mates place. One of the nicest things anyone has done.

Always if they look like they need help, i picked up a hitchiker last month in the rain, i regretted it as soon as i smelled the stench coming off him, all he did was talk sh!t then ask me for money when i pulled over, i said be happy you got a lift now GET OUT ! i was hoping he didn't have a knife, cause after he took my wallet i would have had to run him over

yes i have lots of times . but always i assess the situation 1st . if it is not safe i try to make it so . but if it is too dangerous or risky no way hosay.
the most embarrassing one was a bloke standing next to his car with his thumb out . i never pick up hitch hikers but on this day i stopped and started reversing back . he looked at me and put his head down and shook it . i was so embarrassed , i'm sure he thought i was a fag trying to pick him up. could'nt get out a there quick enough.

For the bum hitch hikers you pull over, wait for them to approach the car, then put the foot down. Do this all the time down the coast.

I pull over for anyone, unless I have a full car or am late for work/uni. I've picked up all kinds of hitch hikers, and have only come across one rude one, who got a call on his mobile just before I dropped him off. He just got our, shut the door, and ran off. I dunno why he needed a lift, he was in a business suit and had some portfolio on him :-/

Yes, I've had a couple of dodgy ones too (stinking of dope or grog, slurring a little, sometimes asking if I can drive another 5km), but nothing nasty.

Yeah have helped quite a few people with car trouble. You never know when it will happen to you..

What really gets on my nerve is when a car has broken down a long way ahead of you in a traffic jam and no one is helping to push it out of the way. they just sit there and honk

Heh, stopped to pick up a bloke one night, thought I knew him at first.
But when he got to the door i didn't, so it was too late.
A nice quick trip on a well known road ensured there was nothing for him to do but panic!!!

About 25 years ago my Father was coming home from work late one night.He was almost home when spotted a motorbike on its side in the gravel and then the rider laying on the side of the road, of course he stopped and found a young lady unconscious with blood running out her nose, she was breathing so he floored it home ,rang 000 grabbed a blanket then headed back to the scene, it was fairly isolated in those days no sreetlights or such so he lit up the area and covered the girl. The ambulance came and took her away so he went home and went to bed. A few hours later loud knoking woke us all up and the police took my old man away for questioning after checking out the car which had a small amount of damage on the left back guard from a previous incident.The girl was critical and in coma hovering above death for over a week before she started to recover and was finally able ID the car that knock her of the road as a taxi about a month later. She was very lucky so was my Dad he was looking at some serious charges, the police were waiting to see if the girl died, they told him so. The taxi driver was caught and convicted. You never know what your getting to when you stop , still I allways do if someones stuck ,though I rarely pick up hitchers these days but thats another story.

one of my brothers on the way to QLD he picked up a hitch hiker and let the hiker drive his car.... while my brother had a happy time drinking...

as far as i remember the only time ive 'pulled over' or given someone a lift (that i didnt know) was a couple of 'native' females in Maroopna which were heading back to Shepparton where i used to live.

That sh*ts me no end, happened a coupla weeks back when I was enjoying my first ride as a passenger in recent memory, the lights went through three cycles and nothin was movin so I went for a bit of a wander to see what the hold up was. I had this happen to me ... I was the one broken down though in the left lane on the Pacific Hwy in Chatswood in afternoon peak hour traffic ... I had to roll the car back down the left lane up a lay-back and onto the footpath to clear traffic.

Now trying to move the car on my own was not easy ... without p/s in the old XG ute ... I had a guy behind me beeping his horn.

I nearly pushed the ute back into his car and really stuffed him up.

Had buses trying to get around me ... narrowly missing me as well.
Finally had someone who eventually gave me a hand moving it. But it was about 10 minutes after I had broken down ... mind you in heavy traffic I was hoping to get a hand from someone much earlier than that.

If i see someone stranded ... I'll pull over and see if they need a hand ... and I have helped others push cars off the road as well (I make sure I lock/secure my car first though) ... just need to be careful who you help on the road though ... some people set it up to mug you.

I have picked up a few hitch hiker's on my L's.
I remember 3 young kiwi girls touring australia during thier uni holiday.

And one bloke trying to suprise his gf in ararat, but he took a wrong turn.
But it's only 30k's between hamilton and penshurst, they can better a lift from there in any direction.

Plus dads 6'6" and i'm touchin 6'4" we don't have much trouble

I"ve given people a lift when i see them running to the bus or train station. Pushed cars into servos, haha why do servos always seem to have that slight incline to get to the bowsers??

WTF is it with ppl honking their horns at a broken down car? What bloody use is that? I always get out and help push a car. I was at a set of traffic lights when a little old lady in a mini got stuck. Ppl behind her were honking, I went past, pulled over in a safe spot, and ran back. She was panicky cos she couldn't get it into gear, it just wouldn't go, the poor thing was almost in tears. So I told her to take off the handbrake and stay in the car, and steer it to the sidestreet. Then I started pushing.

All by myself, I pushed this cute-arsed mini towards the street. It took about 20 cars going past before a cpl of guys stopped to help (yeah, just when I was almost there lol). She managed to get it into gear and said thanks and drove off.

I have helped 2 women with changing tyres (berating them nicely by saying if I can learn to do it, they can too) and when I broke down once I fixed it myself but went off in search of hot water to put in my boiling radiator, with my baby girl attached to my hip hehehe. The guy I got the water from was very impressed that I a) fixed my own cracked hose and b) was smart enough not to put cold water in a boiling hot radiator.

I also stopped when I saw an overheated laser on the side of the road too see if I could help... and I have helped at a few accidents off and on (the worst one was the night we came across a burning car - the passenger is a quadraplegic now).

Oh! And being a woman, I never EVER pick up hitch hikers, EVER.

General rule of thumb for me is not to pick up hitchhikers. Doesn't even matter if they're women hitchhikers.

As for helping stranded people, haven't helped yet (I'm a selfish person, aren't I?), but I'm sure that will happen one day.

I dont pick up hitch hikers, sad reality is you can trust no one these days.

I don't stop to help these days, I have in the past, be it right or wrong, I do not trust they are really broken down and wont jack my car.

If its a car needing a push I do not have a problem giving a hand with that though.

Luckily where i live, if you see someone broken down, you generally know, them.

Given a fair few poeple lifts here and there, provided i know them....

Changed plenty of tires for women, but never had any "follow up".....
