Default Will import laws be relaxed?

With the local car manufacturing industry in its death throes what is the chances of the quite restrictive import laws being relaxed?

Obviously I'm not talking new cars, but what seems to be referred to as 'grey imports' over here.
Or even being able to do parallel imports same as NZ?
