Every now and again when i drive past minchinbury car city, i stop in, have a look around and go for a test drive. Yesterday i took a ls1 for a test drive. An old couple grabbed me in the lot and asked if i wanna sell a car and if i could help them. I told them i didnt work there and i was a customer.
As i was out thrashing the ls1, the old couple were test driving a ford territory. I looked at the territory earlier, 04 model, 157,000km, scuffed up steering wheel, asking price was $16990. Inside looked rough, seats were ok but dash and trim marked up. As i pulled in with the ls1 they pulled in with the territory, the old couple jumped out of the car and told the salesman ill take it? No negotiating or anything. The old couple walked past me and said we bought the territory. I was thinking (your getting ripped). The salesman basically ignored me which i didnt care as i wasnt buying. Did the old couple get hit for a home run? $16990 for a rough high km territory. Even the ls1 i test drove was a 05 berlina 5.7 with 112,000km and they asked $14990. It was a bomb car (the vz ls1) but **** all over the territory they bought. My mate traded his 05 territory at mitsubishi, it had 107,000km diff clunked, gearbox was hopeless when cold and he got $11,000. Imagine how buggered the 157,000km version is and they handed over $16990 Is there one born everyday? |

Just driving.. No different to the tyre kickers who go test drive the new boss 335 GT, needed a refresher to see how they go. Do you want a copy of the video of my 0-100km runs?

Dealerships exploit the unknowing all the time. They have an inflated price (which is justified by overheads) & dont really give a rats earlobe about what POS they flog off to a "sucker". Exactly why I dont buy from them anymore.
Either way, I see this thread being closed very soon... |

It sounds about the right money for what it was.
Obviously they thought it was worth the money and didn't negotiate the price. Why would it worry you if the old couple paid too much for it, oh that's right it's you, another excuse for a thread |

No wonder car salesman can be rude and arrogant, its people like you that have NO INTENTION OF BUYING A CAR JUST WANT TO GO OUT FOR A THRASH.
Maybe you should bought the Olden and went and started pointless threads over at LS1. One born everyday, go look in the mirror...

HULK, maybe you should start a thread with this as a heading: Is the person who ends up buying the LS1 getting ripped off for buying a car that has been thrashed?

And you have to think ... it's an 04 Territory ... it's now 7 years old .... 150-odd thousand kays is high kays for that year model.
I have seen a number of them well over the 250,000km mark. They may have had a good buy as long as the ball joints were done within the 150,000km grace period Ford allowed for these models ... and being RWD there's less things to go wrong with it. Looks like they got themselves a nice comfortable vehicle that handles well and drives like a car to tow their caravan (if they have one).

Well i reckon by not negotiating anything it counts as being ripped off.
First step before signing anything is to haggle the price or get some goodies to go with it... Least thats how i see it.

Even comes with optional fog lights and the roo bar as well.
I have seen much worse interiors than that. I think they got it for a decent price. Man ... that's one reason why I am holding onto my 04 TX AWD ... for that price its literally giving it away.

You dont know in the end what they will pay for it... They could of talked a bit over price with the salesman before or during the test drive. Also they may wait till the salesman is back in the office before talking turkey. Theres a lot that isnt known. Also the price isnt that bad for a dealer, the roo bar itself is a $1500 option.
