I have just seen on Sevens Sunrise that Australian F1 legend has passed away at 88.
And the odd thing is. I saw a car this morning that had his name on it as part of the Jack Brabham Institute of driving and thought, "Jack Brabham, Jeez he's getting on now, I wonder how he is?" Dead set. No joke. http://m.smh.com.au/sport/motorsport...519-zrgoj.html Thanks for the Memories Sir Jack. Thoughts with the Brabham family.

RIP.
Small token but a while back I was giving a JB signature 1:43 model of the BT19, its quite nice, and for my Godsons baptism I also got him a model that he can look at one day. Sad day, but he leaves with an aspiring reputation.

RIP Sir Jack Brabham.
The only man to have ever built, raced and won in his own car. Truly a talent never to be seen again.

I have always been in complete awe of his achievements.
The great man designed and built his own car, with an Australian designed and built engine, then drove it to Formula One World Championship Victory. That sort of achievement at the pinnacle of motorsport is unparalleled. I was in his presence a couple of times but was just like a kid staring in wonder from afar while thinking, imagining, the epic adventure he lived through racing when taking on the world in his own machine, and coming out on top. I can't even begin to process that level of awesome... I felt too much like a dribbling imbecile to actually talk to Sir Jack but looking on he did seemed to be overwhelmingly generous with his time, with no apparent airs or graces. Down to earth. What a stunning example he was for any highly successful person across any pursuit, a lesson in humility and graciousness.

A legendary Australian who is very well known internationally,
I always reckon his life story should have been put on film (a movie). Set a lot of firsts, some may never be repeated in my life time. Condolences to all. |

A great man is gone.
I had the pleasure of meeting Sir Jack a few years back when he checked out our GT40 display at the Sandown historic weekend. It was hard to chat because he was nearly deaf but shaking the great man’s hand was something that was on the bucket list. It was great knowing that he was impressed with the display. RIP Sir Jack.
