1/. 70c $A
2/. Empty factories with suppliers in place
3/. Skilled workforce with even more robotic manufacturing
4/. Little 'red tape'
5/. Awash with gas
6/. Dirty unhealthy Indian air pollution
7/. NW gas export facility
8/. A mutually cooperative Indian and Australian govts
9/. A desire to make it happen

Its not something that can happen overnight. We'd probably already be hearing about offers on Ford's site if there were any interest. With public sentiment against taxpayer assistance, I don't think anyone's keen on buying in.

I'm assuming govt 'assistance' in facilitation only.
India is on the verge of wanting to be taken seriously as a big player IMO and they have a lot of billionaires with nationalist zeal.
Imagine India's air quality if the dirty diesel Oxfords we're replace over time by an ingenious Australian designed adaptable people/agricultural CNG burning vehicle that could be sold to our near neighbours as well.
We must 'see' way beyond 2017.

This. Our LR has been the most reliable vehicle we've had, and hasn't fallen short of our expectations in any way. I wish I could have said that about our Falcon it replaced.

You can have all the facilities etc., in place, but the cost of building a car here (unions) makes it prohibitive. The only way the Indians would come here would be to bring their own workforce with them. It ain't gona happen.

landrover associated companies sort of had business in south Australia.

landrover factory was relocated to SA when it shut down in Sydney.

their was implications about a company wanting local production, and the news programs this morning laughted at the plan calling it a SA election stunt.

P/S the reference to fedral money for state economy. Might stop them migrating to the hunter valley.

They would finance it like JLR which has a unionised workforce which is perfectly capable of seeing mutual benefit.

Why would J/LR invest in production here when tata is full steam ahead building Indian plants to maximize returns..

Exporting from Australia has many Asian impediments and import tax road blocks, the Asians only want us to buy their products..

Are you saying we, with a long history of designing and bringing to market first world cars on very tight budgets, have nothing of value to offer an aggressively expanding English speaking company?.

I love Range Rovers but they cost about twice as much as a falcon if not even more.......Totally different market I suppose?

And they'll prob import 2,000 Indians to work in the factory on $5 a day lol!

I think they would be looking more at a Landcruiser wagon or Hilux Ute competitor.

Yes.
We have nothing to offer J/LR that they already either have or can get via their Indian parent.
Plants in India and China are now priority one and once those plants are built, Australia offers them no advantage whatsoever..

An interesting question!
The Mahindra Group has bought into local aerospace industries as a strategy for a larger footprint in SE Asia so there is possibilities.

I can see Genesis being well over $50,000, it's their premium product so a lot of would be buyers will be in the second hand market...

I have already thought about a locally made 1 tonne ute/tray back for all the tradies but its just not possible.

Really not sure what the tradies are goin to do actually?

Only option I suppose is Ranger/Hilux single cab but ther wont be the high spec V8's some tradies go for???

Hyundai will be number one here if sister company Kia aren't within 5 years. They might even be one and two.. They are the best/strongest/cheapest cars on the market and they have that ratio just right. Who saw that little Kia hit the Falcon on the news at high speed. Tragic but it sure showed off the strength of the Korean steel.

No V8, the V8 will only be built in LHD, so we are only getting the V6.

The simple fact is the factories are too old to be competitive globally and capacities are too small. To be competitive these days you need factories that can build 250,000 cars a year, not 100,000.

It would be kinda cool if Broady could be reconfigured to assemble F250 and F350 Super Duty trucks for RHD countries. Won't be any issue there with the relatively low capacity as 100,000 units/pa would be more than enough for those trucks, plus there is enough fat in the pricing of those trucks to offset the high labor costs here.
