Hi All,
Now I really dont want to get "Cained" for not using the "Search" function, tried that but couldn't find too much info. I am looking at a "Cat Back" exhaust for my Zetec Hatch and was wondering if anyone has come across an "Off The Shelf" system available in Australia. If so, where and how much ?! Any help would be fantastic. |

Xforce exhaust for a Mazda3.
A member on here has the headers and exhaust on his Foc. Most Mazda3 exhausts will fit off the shelf due to having the same engine and chassis, maybe with slight adjustment to the tip to suit the LS/LT rear bar Edit: http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=109109

Hey Black LS,
Thanks for the quick response !! The X-Force system looks ok. Wondering about the pipe size though ? Is 2.5" too big for the Foci ? Camerooch. |

I just had some kind of cat back system installed for $420. Nice note and twin tailpipe. Now it's noisier than last week and does seem go have more mid range... perhaps they need to burn out the packing?
Much better smiles per miles too. Next is the inlet.. |

Was it already made or did you get an exhaust shop to make it up for you ?
Any ideas on the pipe size ? Cheers. |

I'm dyin to do my exhaust. Won't be happening until summer, but I'm looking for a 2.5" system with twin oval tips (one on each side). Hoping to get 4-2-1 headers too. Will probably just get a generic system from a local exhaust place. Bit expensive to import the parts, plus then you've got to find someone to install them. Some places won't do it because it's not their stuff, and if they will do it, it'll cost ya an arm and a leg.
EDIT - that XForce exhaust sounds awesome. Thinking thinking :eclipsee_

I had it supplied and fitted by Protrack in Cranbourne Vic - 03 5995 3833
The piping looked about 2.5" OD with twin tailpipes. Not sure of the material for the price $420 fitted I would guess mild steel - it was painted vlack.. Hope this helps. |

Cool,
So it looks like most are going for 2 1/2 inch systems. Dual tips out the back like the XR5 does look nice !! |

Well I would have preferred a bog standard look to avoid unwanted scrutiny if you know what I mean.
Another anoying thing is it's loud even when cruising, the slightest touch of the throttle and it mmmmmmBLATTmmmmm esp when you pass a cop car.. Still I havn't stalled it now I can hear it... |

A note on materials...
Stainless is a waste...exhaust tube is aluminised steel, and the rust is pretty much not an issue. How many 20year old cars have had an exhaust replaced? Not many... Stainless exhausts was an industry attempt to increase profit margins, and it's been heavily advertised and promoted as the latest greatest thing, but as far as dollar per result goes, it's a total waste of money. How many of us will still have our cars in 10 years? And in 10 years, your aluminised exhaust tubing will still be in great condition. I work with marine materials every day, and it's only in an environment so salt laden that stainless is really needed. And even then, mild steel fittings still see service, and they stand up surpisingly well... -RM.

On some modern Euro cars (and I think the focus is one of them?) they use lightly stainless alloyed steel for exhaust systems, because of problems with salting the roads in icy countries.

yes the standard one is stainless of some kind. Very thin gauge so light to work with. I had mine cut in half so I could take it home.
