Hi there, I recently bought a 1998 Ford Futara Auto with 178, 000 K's. When I start the car up it can take up to 10 minutes for the car to warm up and only when I'm driving will it eventually warm up. When I come to a stop and the car is still cold it come times stalls and/or will not take off. I have tried changing the petrol pump I even changed to premium fuel. The gauge starts on cold then goes into the normal area, but it doesn't have to be in the morning it can be in the middle of a HOT day and it will happen. the car will start up every time but then will take a while for the gauge to get into the normal area. When it's on cold the car stalls when i stop at lights etc, or will take of really slowly if I pump the gas. ( it's an auto ) Does any one know what I can do?

Mate, you dont need all these topics, put it in general tech ONLY.
Take it to a mechanic, because you obviously know nothing about Eseries cars, and they will be able to assess it quicker and accurately. It could be any number of things. Sounds as though your cooling system is fine, it may need the plugs checked, carbon clean, etc. etc. etc. etc... |

It's most likely your thermostat jammed open, either that or the sender unit in the block is stuffed....

He has issues with stalling etc.... a thermostat stuck open and a "cold" motor wont cause stalling and hesitation when trying to accellerate... (Poster has started several threads in different areas)

the stalling part could be something simple like the throttle body needs a clean, or the isc needs a clean.
or a bad connection in the spark plug leads or coil, once it is warm im presuming it is fine. some dielectric grease could be used in all the electrical connections, to see if it helps. it may even need the timing to be checked or reset? and might be worthwhile to reset the computer too while you are at it. disconnect the battery for 30 mins (if you have the radio security code to reprogram it.) the slow to warm up part could be that there is no thermostat fitted, or it is stuffed and stuck open.

is it using coolant?
head gaskets were reasonably common on e series. if thermostat is stuck open the car will take forever to warm up but generally it will just keep getting hotter. it won't just take forever to get to normal and then stay in normal, it will keep going. |
