One problem is that its not legal for the p platers and young girls buy a lot of fiestas but I guess a lot of them will jump in it for a second car.

Ford are on to winners with these new gen ST models, but that was a given really considering how good the old ST's were.

Oh well, it can be a aspirational car for for p platers & girls too! If i had the cash & looking for a performance fwd that can be driven everyday, this would be it. Should go well once tweaked!

I've driven the old model Fiesta ST as there's one in the family and the WS Zetec is our daily car. Even the WS is pretty sporting, not a lot of power but its not slow either. The road holding is good enough to put the fear of God in anyone on a twisty road. What excites me about the new ST is simply how good the old one is, its got some grunt plus just has crazy traction you can drive around normal roads carrying the rear wheel in the air any place you want. I know they have put in months of testing around the nurburg ring in the new one just like they did before so I'm expecting it to be nothing short of amazing. Not to mention it looks like it'll cruise down the highway at very low revs and about 5.0l/100.

The power will be more than enough I think for the kind of car it is. Exciting times.

The pricing came out for the US version the other day and its 21k. Hopefully it lands here around 25-26k as expected without any surprises.

One thing though it looks like our version will be de-tuned, please ford don't do it. Leave it alone like you did with its bigger brother that has already proven a winner.

Are you referring to the European vs US specs DJ?

If so, the US specs are quoted under overboost whereas the Euro specs aren't.

Aahhh ok I didnt know that but I did hear about the overboost. Must have got confused my bad. I just thought the OZ version was de tuned but I guess it still might be a fair way out to know that.

It will depend on pricing - I hope it is not the triple of UK price - double that's a given :-)

Can't be double, all the rest of the German fiesta range have been 1.7x the UK price once they arrive here. They expected the us version to be sub 23k and it came in at 21.

I'm hoping this will be sub 26 but it could be 28. I don't imagine it'll sell at 30. Too many other similar hatches on the way. If the pricing stays consistent it'll be 100% under 28k. Even the Focus ST is smack on 1.7x

It should under-cut the VW Polo GTI, especially given it's a manual, and it's normal to sting us $2k for an auto ($1k in US for comparison). So... I reckon $26,990 plus ORC, or around the $30k mark drive away.

All the ST's make the same power and torque but the yanks are allowed to use the overboost figures, where Oz and the Euros can't quote overboost figures even though it still uses it.

You guys all know my opinions on new cars, that said we went to an MVA yesterday with the grocery getter spec one of these and it behaved VERY well, I assume the car will be written off (less than a month old and under 1000km but it took a BIG hit all air bags deployed (I hope it was all of them there seemed to be about 10 or so the driver (only occupant) was transported but only because she was shaken up the other vehicle an early 90's commodore wasn't so lucky and had there been a passanger they would have been in for a world of pain

Put simply this isn't the type of car I would buy for my mother inlaw, but I would happily have my wife and kids in one

Ive seen the result of the last model Focus bouncing off a semi and rolling several times off the highway. Apart from the front end bring squished and,one front wheel and suspension bring torn off. The pasenger compartment was hardly scratched and all the side curtain airbags were hanging down, no injuries.

Very impressive. You can tell driving the Fiesta that its freakin strong in the body. Its VERY solid. Theres a link to a pdf in the fiesta section showing which panels in the body are high strength steels and its the majority of them.

Can't wait to see these on the road. $26k will put them within reach of way more buyers than the $40k Focus. At that price they'll be undercutting the Focus Sport petrol manual... I know which one I'd buy (and I've demo'd the Focus).

We're in our second Fiesta and I'm a huge fan of them. Tonnes of fun to drive and plenty of room for me at 6'2", my wife and 2 kids. I've got the 3 door this time and it handles like a roller skate.

Isn't a reviewer anyone that can get hold of a car before it goes on sale, not such an easy thing to do. In any case you have to take anything you can get at the moment because its still early days, if top gear review it later on that might be more fun. I thought it was funny to see an old dude in a hat driving a St.
