As petrol prices soar - whats your next option?

For those of you driving V8's or anything else that drinks well.

If it ever got to that - what car (or mode of transport) would you go to for fuel efficent driving and why?

apparenlty they do like 13's down the quarter stock... oh and their AWD, but i think their a big "front heavy" which means a bit of understeering

LPG most likely, by the time I upgrade a car with the new LPG injection factory installed should be out on the new car models coming out in the 18 months or. OR at least I hope so, beacuse I cant see my self driving a sub 2L car.

GTiRs kick ****. If you got a bit of money chuck the GTiR engine in a SSS. That way its FWD so you lose a bit of weight in the car without the RWD aswell. Done and proven-VERY QUICK!!!

Wait till the price of GT-Ps falls through the floor and buy one, stick it in the shed like I should have done with the one owner XB I should have bought.
Seriously, unless you go to something like a 1.6 the money you save will be pretty small when compared with the cost of changing over vehicles and then you lose the comfort of a roomy 5 seater sedan. To buy a magna or camry instead of a falcon or commodore is a waste of time financially.
I guess I'll just pay more for my fuel.

I'd give up my internet connection B4 my consumption of petrol. For that to happen fuel will have to go up another 50c/litre.

A ZH on LPG... filled her up today, $18 from just into the last 1/4 tank to brimming full, and all in the worst of Sydney prices!!!!

I pointed and laughed at the delivery van next to me with $90 of diesel.

Would never part with my GTP ,it's only my weekend car,so the cost would'nt matter and there's something special about a V8 well worth the extra cost in fuel.

lol i like how a few of you are like xr6t or gtir, the smaller engine will save a bit of fuel if the turbo wasnt bolt onto it.

you could use just as much fuel in the gtir as an xr8 if you were running more boost and driving it hard which you have to do to get the power out.

if your that worried about fuel get a scooter or catch public transport and drive your car for fun or week ends only

i cant complain my 5.0 drinks as much as a e sereis I6 would, sumtimes less, if my work gies me a fuel card , ill stroke the thing :P

I just become a bit more wary about how often I drive. Plan ahead try to reduce the number of trips i do to do 1 or 2 things. do them all at once.

kinda hard to do seeing that every weekend am out cruisen and spending every cent i earn on it...

Im getting that way now. The TX5 likes to chew the juice if you let it rip even though its only a 4cyl. God help me if i ever owned a V8 if its this bad with a 4cyl.

What the hell aslong as im not paying rego or insurance ill open the throttle. Lol the screw from the bolt on pedals stops me opening it up 100% so im already saving cos im too lazy to cut it down or take it off :P

The good side of it though is its really good if you drive conservatively and ive noticed this particularly goin to the coast. I might use 1/4 tank goin down maybe.

The most ive spent is maybe $200 in 2 weeks on petrol but now im only doin about $30 every 2 weeks coz im on holidays and only really go to and from work.

Fit LPG injection to the XR8. Costs $3000, but if I keep the car I will get that back in around 2 years, PLUS it will give approx 10rwkw extra power.

I bought a scooter, don't need a bike licence for 50cc (in SA anyway) and costs about $4 a week in petrol driving it to and from uni every day

I'll mix it up between driving my 8 and my 6. Maybe drive the 6 three days a week or something, the 3.9 is pretty good on fuel.

While my current Focus can sit on 7 grand + all day and still only use a thimble of fuel, even better will be the turbo diesel new Focus, should Ford be wise enough to bring it to Oz.



Falcon-like torque (340NM) at only 2,000rpm, and using ~6L/100km.

For a daily driver, it's one of the candidates for when Euro4D gets replaced. But I can't see that happening anytime soon, and Ford have to bring the turbo diesel here first.

I'll ring JC to pick me up in his LPG powered XR8.

I've got the focus, so its pretty good on petrol. The XR6 doesn't get driven a great deal, but still, it hurts the pocket each time I gotta put petrol in that.

I know my rolla has issues as far as timing etc goes (and shall be fixed soon), but I still pay more to run her than I do the EA. LPG is the way to go and within the next few months we will have not one but two E-series on LPG parked in our driveway.

When I filled up the Rolla the other day and paid $54 for 350-400ks of Optimax, that was it for me... even when she's all fixed up she will still only get around 500ks per tank (she's not so young anymore) and at that price I don't want to drive her. The EA (with a leaking gas converter atm, mind you - fixed tomorrow) gets 300-350ks on $30!

And guess which car is more comfortable, roomier and easier to drive (now)?

Before I got my Ps I used to walk almost everywhere. Sometimes quite long distances too.

I guess I'd just have to go back to that.

Jeez thats depressing...

My car is running LPG, only cost me 17 bucks to fill it....... but the 351 is thirsty and it lasts 2 days LOL

but I only drive on weekends anyway so it isnt an issue, I train and bus durring the week ;)
