this is Holdens version of Fords drop the v8 moment from 1982. wow so that leaves an Opal OPC TTV6 once the commodore finishes. No wonder walkinshaw is looking at ram utes (rumor)?
granted we are losing the Falcon and s/c v8 and Turbo 6 atleast we have a v8 mustang! Holden is going polar oposite! |

If they can't get the numbers to go RHD for a much cheaper Camaro, what chance does the expensive Corvette have. It's just not going to happen.
But GM have said they will have a RWD V8, so what's it going to be? Cadillac? 239 kw V6 SS |

This will be interesting if true:
"Insiders claim the muscled-up Opel is the fastest accelerating HSV road car ever. Given its 430kW GTS flagship – Australia's quickest ever production car -- is no slouch, it could be something worth waiting for"

Surely this is One Ford's fault somehow.

I wonder if they are just saying that to keep V8 Commodore sales trickling along.

They would be mad to not bring Cadillac in given they wont have much left. Problem is if its the same price as BMW, Merc et al then you may aswell stick with the Germans.
Whats with US car companies being so slow to build platforms that easy accept LHD & RHD?

Probably because of our LHD market in the hundreds of millions at home. And much more restrictive regulatory environments in RHD countries.

Thank Christ. That Camaro looks hideous.
Shouldn't this story been preceded with one about homlogating it so they can use it for motorsport first?? You know, like the 427 Monaro was?? |

I agree, no way GM will allow Holden to slap their badge on their 'halo' Corvette. Either it will be a new car, or nothing. A contact at Holden told me earlier this year that the 'V8 sports car' announcement was purely to steal a bit of thunder from the Mustang and that there was nothing concrete in the works.

But, in America, it has been getting some rave reviews following some pre-release drive previews.

Just got back from the US and there were lots of Camaro's and Challenger's, not alot of the new Mustang compared to these.

But that interior, looks like some gaming computer geeks control room with glary geeky computer reclining chairs...I may be odd but I prefer the utility functional FGX XR8 interior-it is neutral and just fades away aside from the focal rev counter and speedo...

The Camaro and Challenger have been out for several years. The 2015 Mustang debuted less than a year ago.

The makeover of Holden dealerships will probably start late 2016/17. The lion badge will be ancillary and one of a a few appearing under the GM moniker on dealerships.

Stupid thing is the Camaro is based on Commodore architecture so it should be a doddle to build it in RHD. There was talk of a new smaller RWD architecture which will be RHD compatable for next gen Camaro and a RWD sedan but this suggests that maybe that is shelved.

Reading a heap of replies on USA forums, new owners of Camaro not overall impressed with particularly the hefty weight of the Zeta platform.
The difference between American car manufacturers, is the americans somewhat listen to their customers feedback. The Australians in some of these companies have the "we'll build what we think is best and they'll buy anything" attitude. That attitude works short term. |
