Calling on all concreters out there.
Genuine opportunity to earn some cash!! I am looking at getting my driveway concreted, about 80 square meters. About 2 feet excavation required (this is a $500 job on it's own). I have been getting all sorts of BS quotes, to me it's just woffles. It's a simple and uncomplicated job, with easy access, just plain concrete and a bag of colour. I need someone to do it for $3500 firm, I don't mind if it takes a month to do, cash money upon completion of job. Location Franga! Call 9796 5275 ask for Chris. (8am-4pm) SERIOUS PEOPLE ONLY! |

I think your going to struggle to get someone to do the job for $3500. I would think that job would be worth around $5000 plus. Have you actually spoken to somone that would dig the hole, $500 sounds pretty cheap.

You want cheap you will get cheap.
I was lucky to have enough knowledge to do all the concreting around our place. Dont be a tight *** and pay what its worth. Quotes probably wouldnt be that bad at all. |

Anyone can lay concrete, some can form, but a true concreter is rare to find at a bargain price

yep, concreting is far from a homogeneous commodity
I wouldn't use anyone without seeing their work I know a guy in Brisbane who's a guru and wouldn't get anyone else to do my place (unless it's for a crappy renta and you want cheap - cause as per above, that's what you'll get) |

How thick is the slab you want?
Whats the 2ft of excavation for? Drive-ways are usually 100mm thick at least and you would want 25mpa concrete which, out here, is nearly $200m3. I think you will struggle to get a good job done for only $3500

Dont know what sort of business you are in but concreting is a bloody hard trade to be in thats for sure. Some rogues out there ready to rip you off though. Thats why your better to get a few quotes through more reputable concreters not cowboys.

I got bunch of quotes just last week, I got 1 at $163 m3 for 25mpa, another at 165 m3 and a few at 170 m3 some other larger companies quote up to $250m3. One lady told me that its slow right now and to call her with my best quote and she will do her best to beat it. All quotes we're gst and delivery include.

My parents are getting their driveway done. Around the same work, roughly the same size and I think they are paying around the 5K mark???
Can confirm it over the weekend. I agree with others that say 3.5k is a little on the cheap side. I would make it 5inches thick personally, or at least 5 inches where the tracks are.

Not sure on the bag of colour, but that can be rather variating in price depending on the colour Depending on the colour a bag of colour can cost $200 or even more for a 20 KG bag,and depending on how many bags Vs the concrete required you could use a few bags Ring some concrete product supply shops, they will have a few reputable concretors they know Ruff guesstimate , i done a slab 7.3 X 7.3 and the material was trade, cash, and it was around $1100 material alone, that was 18 months ago The other issue is how far are you from a concrete batch plant ??? If your a fair distant youll get slugged more for travel Good luck |

You will be lucky to find that anywhere.
We just had all the driveways done around our house and also had the pool area concreted. Total of 580 square metres. Total cost $35k. That was discounted from $38k for cash. Concrete was done using stencil pattern and sealed once complete. There was a some levelling which was done by a bob cat contractor, but was included in the price. This worked out to be $60 per square meter which was the going rate in sydney late last year. I had some quotes at $120 per square meter!!! For your job, you should expect to pay around $4800 - $5000

Good Luck, i am getting my driveway quoted and i have had betweeen 16-22K for the job..its a good size..but mate i work for Boral and concrete isnt cheap..and good concreters that give a good job aint cheap either..Plus a concrete pump for the day is between 500 -800 ...unless you want to barrow the concrete (not recommended) ... If you find someone willing to do it for 3.5K ...cheap their previous jobs and investigate

i own my own concreting company, and to be honest with you 3500 is not only an insult, but also a joke. you WILL NOT get someone to do it at that price and definetly not without cutting corners. and thats without even considering the color. when you are using a concreting contractor you are not only paying for the concrete, you are paying for years worth of experience and expertice to get a result that will stand the test of time. DONE ONCE AND DONE RIGHT.

you keep saying that all you need is a concreter.......does that mean YOU will pay for the 2 grunts......ground prep and disposal.....the forticon.....the mesh.....the dye.....concrete.... hire of the helicopter as well as the pump
do you mean the $3,500 goes direct to the concreter if this is what you mean then you have a chance ....otherwise......you're dreaming I've done many concreting jobs and I wouldn't even look at your job for that amount I would reckon double your offer and you may get a bight.....maybe!

Well this is going nowhere. Mate, try putting an ad onto Gumtree. You might get some backyarder looking for work, if all you want is a concreter.

just to add some scale to this thread, if your driveway was a simple grey job, you would be looking at approx $60-70 per,m2, plus excavation on top of that. i cant even give you an idea on color as you dont stipulate if you want color mixed through or a topping mix. but seeing as youre not bothering to take in the point of most of us here i assume i am wasting my time anyway. good luck with the job.

I paid $6000 for 90 sq metres 6 months ago.
Included all materials, minimal excavation.. in parts the slab was 150mm thick. It was the inside of a farm shed, so the shed was the formwork. Cash, no GST and no receipt and no warranty. But I would definitely have a go at it myself next time with a few mates. It took 2 guys 7 hours to do, about $2000 for materials. Concreters as a trade are not worth 2000 bucks a day cash, per man each. |

A lot of people want something for nothing, people need to understand that concretors are running a business just like anyone else, they have overheads they have to pay for on top of the cost of the job regardless if it's a cash job or not. Here is a breakup of what I think the job is worth as a minimum!
8m3 concrete colour mixed inc 5% wastage = $230 x 8.4 = $1932 6 sheets mesh $60 / sheet = $420 1 Day excavator and remove soil = $800 1 day 2 men to form up $300 a day each = $600 1 day 2 men to pour = $600 0.5 day 2 men to strip formwork = $300 Total = $4,652 |
