Default Whats the cheapest that you can get an Unreg car on the road again? NSW

Seeing that im no longer a NSW resident, i dont know what the costs, or what needs to be done.

I know i will need a blue slip, but what else?

i need to be able to move my XC to qld, and there is no way i can do that unreg...

Soooo... what needs to be done? how much, and how quickly can it get done?

And finally, does anyone have a copy of a blue slip they can email me, so i know what i have to get checked up??

If you're just moving it, can't you apply for a temporary registration? Contact the RTA and get advice.

should be able to get temp reg.

I could buy an unreg car in WA, get a temp reg paper for $30 or so in Vic for rego for a week, just with the vin and engine numbers, no checks, and drive it all the way back to Victoria!!

Its also the way you take your unregistered car around on the roads for repairs for a RWC.

In victoria, and maybe QLD. You have another option! That is to drive on the road for free, unregistered and legal.

Example: You are in NSW, want to drive to Colac Vicroads in Victoria. Ring up vicroads, get an appointment for a registration (free), keep the acknolegment numbers on hand for when(very likely!) you get pulled over by the cops.
Its law that you can drive WITHOUT a permit to get your car registered. (and even if you get there and its not good enough for some reason, at least you are practially home.) or as your home is on the way to colac! ie Geelong, you stop there at home, ring up vicroads and cancel your appointment.

Its all legal, and you are covered for TAC etc, not 3rd party however.

If it is drivable, TNT carriers move it. I sent an un-reg ute to Brisbane just a few months ago.
Otherwise you can get a temp day pass, you need a road worthy for it though.

Blue slip is effectively a pink slip with a verification that the engine/ chassis is not stolen. Mechaniocally same as a pink slip.

trailer is not really an option... its too far to lug 2.5 tonnes behind a 6 cyl!

this unreg permit interests me... anyone have more info for the laws to QLD? coz its coming from Sydney to Brisbane.. roadworthy, just has some rust... will i have to get an RTA and QT permit? or just QT or just RTA???

I wasn't aware of this. When I tried to get temp reg I was told I couldn't drive the car more than 15 clicks from the place were it is housed, and it could only be driven to and from a repairer.

I recently moved my XB from Canberra to Western Victoria. I ended up getting a trailer and doing the job myself, but in the end a transporter would have worked out cheaper.

Showstopper, if you couldnt afford that then how would you afford the $900 fine when you get caught?
And thats not all... after youve copped the fine then you have to get home plus pay for tow truck to move the car.
Use your brains guys :

Most transport companies will take it for you.

Even if its undrivable they can use a forklift to get it up on to a trailer.

My dad runs a transport company, we do it quite a bit.

Lifted a recently restored 1969 Mustang Fastback about 3 weeks ago, no troubles.

We do have a ramp to get the cars up to but it isn't the right height for the drop deck trailers which we use now.

The few I have called stated the car must be driveable, but I am sure there is some out there who dont care.
Dont risk driving it un-registered, it is therefore un-insured - not worth the risk and the fines. I think it cost the guy about $400 door to door to have my XA ute sent to him in Brisbane.

the temp rego is really jsut a pink slip but be carful you are esentualy driving an uninsured vehicle

A blue slip is a pink slip with an ID check after that you need a green slip get some 3rd party property to cover your and your sweet.

Get to banna land and cash it all back in no dramers

I bought my wifes XC in brisbane, drove it back to Adelaide. the guy didnt have time to get a roadworthy done on it, (and we don't have them in SA anyway), so legally we couldn't transfer the ownership. we found out the easiest way to do it was for him to surrender the plates, so the car was unrego'd, and we got a permit for three days.
we did have to go to one of the big insurance companies (the transport department has a list of which ones do it) and get an insurance certificate for the three days. we couldnt get the permit unless we provided the insurance cert.
all up it cost somewhere around $150 for both the permit and insurance, the permit was the cheaper of the two....

only got pulled over once, in brisbane. the cop couldn't understand why I'd flown all the way to QLD to buy an old V8 falcon... but not bad, driving from qld to sa with no plates

If you are taking an unregistered car from NSW to QLD, just get the qld transport people to give you a permit, and put any old address in Vic you like. I'm sure that would get you past any cops in NSW.

well..

i just got word back from NSW RTA.

the next post has the details. it seems NSW is the cheapest way to do it. $17 for the permit, $8 for CTP, plus like $20 for roadworthy cert.

i spoke with QT yesterday, and they said that i have to have a permit from the starting point, not the finishing point. Im amazed at how quickly the RTA answered my emails. And they were concise.

I have been investigating my local state laws about unregistered Vehicle permits, and have been in contact with Queensland Transport. They Have advised me to contact NSW RTA. I have a vehicle which is roadworthy, but unregistered, and i need to transport it from Sydney to Brisbane. What are the rules and regulations in NSW regarding this? Is there a similar system in place as in QLD whereas you can purchase an UVP For the needed period of time in order to transport the vehicle from
point A to point B in the shortest possible route, in the shortest reasonable time?

Could you please advise what processes are in place, and what I would need to do.

Thanks and regards
John

To obtain a unregisted vehicle permit you get a pink slip roadworthy and take that to a Motor registry and get the permit for how many days you need to drive to Quuensland.

Excellent. do you have any idea what the cost of such a permit is?
What about CTP?

Dear John,

The permit itself costs $17 and the insurance will vary depending on how long you want the permit for. As these permits are only designed for a single journey from A to B, you should only need the permit for 1 or so days. If this is the case the insurance should be approximately $8.

To apply for the permit you need to obtain a current Pink Slip (road worthy) for the vehicle. You will need to attend an RTA motor registry with your drivers licence for identification, a receipt for accommodation in NSW, or evidence of a NSW contact address, this may be the address of a friend or relative if you are not a NSW resident. Where the address of a friend or relative is provided, a letter from the nominated contact person authorising the use of their address on behalf of the applicant must be provided. The letter must state the name of the applicant and the name and address of the person authorising the use of their address. You will also be required to complete an unregistered vehicle permit application form (as per
attached). If there is any number plates associated with the vehicle you must hand them in.

You will need to nominate what day the permit starts and finishes and what main roads you will be travelling on.

I strongly urge people doing any sort of unreg travel to go down this path. For $25 you can get rego and insurance for a day. Saves yourself $1200 in fines, and god forbid, covers you in case of an accident for CTP.

I have a copy of the UVP application forms for both QLD and NSW if anyone needs, just pm me. ill eventually make all this extremely important info into a docco for all to share.
