I thought V10.... Just tell them that you thought that they want you to be happy, and a XR8 is just one way to do that. End the end you are driving it, but then again if your parents are paying then your going to be :

It sounds like your parents still have a lot of control over your life. So it's either you're still living at home and/or they are paying for the car, rego, insurance.
You want an EL XR8 move out, get a job and buy the damn car. In seriousness it sounds to me like a matter of trust between you and your parents and nothing here is going to fix that. Buy that 4cyl Galant for now and show how responsable you are. |

get a el xr6... don't get an 8 cause of petrol prices... unless you're rich then you may as well get the 8 :P... but if you are getting a minimum/mid wage then you'll probably end up struggling

My parents always asked me why i wouldn't get a 'normal' first car and i just said i wouldnt be happy with it, they said ok fair enough.
Stock the V8's aernt quick either much the same as the I6's, even a stock EF gli still has more than enough ability to spin the wheels and put it into a tree |

XR8s will also hold their value. More so than other Falcons.
I strongly agree with Mustang, tell your parents your old enough to make your own decision. And sure enough, if they are paying for it. You should accept the extra costs, and pay the extra. Be very very prepared to wear the costs. If your just on your p's and studying, and only work 2-3 shifts, it's very hard to pay to run a 6 cylinder, let alone 8. And on top of that, all the maintenaince costs, as well as mods. You also have to live.

Just get it :P.
Seriously, if it's really the car you want then why not get it. Even if it may put your parents offside initially. if you take care of it, drive sensibly and show them your not a "hoon", then they should come around to the idea of you having it PS: make sure it's a series 2 ;)

Tell the folks you've done your research and found that the v8 is more reliable in the long run and converts to gas better. Which is all true by the way and remember manual my son don't even consider an auto slusher!

Tell them you want it for the V8 sound. E-Series XR8's are slower then a wet week, where you could jump into plenty of 4's and 6's that are ALOT faster.

I take it you are getting this vehicle for your license, so that mean's you would have to be atleast 18, and an ADULT, so buy what you want not what someone tell's you.

Ask them if a manual AU XR6 would meet their approval. When they say yes, you can tell them the 6 is faster. Then play the "I need a V8 for towing" when I start my lawn mowing business next year.
