Hi. If it was factory fit the engine number should match the chassis number and it should have a 5 bolt bellhousing and a generator as I doubt that ford engineers would source the late 64 motor for a car that had a run from 61 to 65. Cheers MD

Don't the MK1 Cortinas have an engine code ?

Try http://www.cortina-mk1.com/identify.php, and others I'm sure.

Never ever heard of a V8 Mk1 Cortina factory approved (someone can prove me wrong I'm sure).
There were some Mk2 Cortina Savage (approved?) conversions, with an Essex V6 3lt IIRC.

As above.

No Mk1 Cortina (sold to the public anyway) ever came out of the factory with a V8.

They can be made to look factory fitted, maybe that's what he meant?

Mk1 Cortina was never fitted with a V8 from the factory. They had 1200, 1500 and Lotus Twin cam.

Thats correct.

Heaps of retro fit done with 2ltr, 3ltr and V8 in my teenage years by mates

If you do or don't buy it can I have some photos? I've got one that will be a future gasser for the Motorplex. Would love to see what mount/suspension items have been used.
