I have an LW Focus and recently have had a problem with the front passenger door not locking properly. The doors make their locking sound, the rear view mirrors turn in and everything appears to be locked. But recently on 2 occasions I have opened the passenger door and the door has opened but none of the other doors have opened and the rear view mirrors have remained closed. The first time it happened, I though it was just something I had done. Today after it happened, I locked the car again and placed the key fob out of range. I was able to open the passenger door by hand and the door opened and then I tried each of the other doors including the boot and none of these would open. So I am assuming that the front passenger door may not be locking every time. It doesn't happen every time though. Just asking for any help/suggestions. Thanks in advance.

You haven't got 2-stage locking set by any chance? One press will open the driver's door, but not the passenger doors; a second press opens all doors. I'm not sure it's the reverse when locking, that is, passenger doors lock first and a second press locks the driver's door.
Edit: just realised it's the front passenger door. Suggest you check 2-stage locking settings just the same. |

most likely a failed door lock that will need to be replaced.

Thanks for the comments. I have been trying to replicate the problem but it always seems to be working ok. Maybe a rare glitch but it was unusual when the key fob was nowhere near the car and all doors locked but I could open the front passenger door by hand and all the other doors remained locked.
Just letting people know that the car may not be as secure as they think. Hopefully, I will never see it happen again. |
