Default Selective TV news reporting???

Is the TV news being selective about what they report? Watching the evening news and none of the channels reported on the absolutely horrific incident involving the Muslim Nanny in Moscow that took place late last night! Why is it not being reported?

Is there a gag order because of the nature of this being so violent? Who decides what the TV news can report or not report?

I'm surprised that you think tv news is unbiased.
why would you think such a thing?
they are owned, not by the public, but by business interests.

Same as there is very little news coverage of what's going on in the states between the cops and minorities.

Informing the public is not in the best interests of the mainstream media. They don't observe the prevailing attitude, they create it.

News editors would ask what relevance and public interest the story holds for their viewers. Given the significant unknowns and relatively isolated incidence, gruesome as it was, it wasn't deemed news worthy, just like all the other atrocities you don't hear about daily.
Does your concern over its lack of airtime relate to the act or the perpetrator?

Both. We hear about child killers in Australia. School kids shot down in schools in USA. Children gunned down in Africa. But why is this incident being swept under the carpet? Yes it's a gruesome act of violence against an innocent child, but so was all the other incidents mentioned above where innocent children were murdered.

I can't help but think it was not reported to... "keep the peace". As there would be a lot of emotions being stirred, and a lot of anger expressed if it was widely known what happened.

At lunch at work today I bought up the subject with workmates and NONE of them knew of it. And these guys work on the factory floor with a radio blasting all day. I told them to watch the evening news and you'll see for yourself. Well....

Wonder how many members here knew of the incident before reading this thread?

Why is it any more newsworthy than any other tragedy. Especially given the likely divide between the Australian community and the incidents main players. Anecdotally a person in a burka wielded a head and was apprehended, the news reports corroborate not much more fact than that, from alleged witnesses?
How did you hear about it? Assuming your not implicated I assume you found out through a news outlet, Aljazeera possibly?
Editors make judgement calls, if you don't agree take their jobs, write a letter, or accept their judgement and move on with your life, best not obsessing about such sad stories

Why do you mention the religion? I'm not Muslim but the actions of one person should have no bearing on a particular religion or race.

I saw the story on news.com.au but chose not to read it, just like I choose not to read most of those types of stories.

I have no doubt though that if it was aired on more wide stream media, then like you, religion probably would have been mentioned also.

Safe bet that's why you didn't hear about it on the tv or radio.

Yep it was mentioned in all the news stories I watched, in fact not just mentioned but it was the body of the story. Even the headline was "Muslin woman bla bla bla" so yes you are right.

No they dont, but religion was a bit over used in the stories I saw, and it was those networks you mention and also BBC believe it or not.

It was a 'religious' act. Correct me if I am wrong but does not Islam allow for the beheading of 'infidels'?

Would more noise have been made if the murderer had Christian connections? I am sure the condemnation would have come thick and fast, and rightly so, but there is a reluctance to point the finger at Islam...

From the stories I saw it didn't sound like it was a religious act, but the horrible murder of a baby by someone that happend to be a muslim. They were early stories I saw more info might have come ti light later.

I hope it was actually a judgement call to not run it by the media on tv.

Nonetheless, the end result is the preferred in my view on not showing it regardless.

Sad story, apparently nutter of a nanny.

Feel so sorry for the family of the victim.
So so sad.

Both the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily Telegraph here in Sydney headlined the story earlier today with video.

I don't know about the television news as I was out and missed it.

So it appears the news has filtered across the networks as interest and information grows. No bias or selectivity just good old vilification I sounds like!

It used to be that reading the newspaper there would be pages marked 'opinion' or 'editorial'. You knew that you were not reading news but a view of the news.

Now, with the limited and contracting ownership of media, the line between opinion and reporting grows narrower. It is not disclosed that a story is about a cross-promotion or a quid-pro-quo for advertising.

The balance to that is that news can be sourced from so many different places, not just traditional TV, newspaper or radio.

That the perpetrator in the Moscow story was described as Muslim is about as relevant to the story as describing Charles Manson as Christian.

Absolutley, the story should have been about a cruel, vischious act. But the stories I saw was more about what a muslim woman and a crime. I still dont know if the Islam thing had anything to do with it.
And you are right about opinion and reporting, its getting harder to tell where it ends and starts.

Selectivity runs both ways. Just as we don't know if religion had anything to do with this foul act, we cannot say it did not. Beheading is an extreme act, associated with ISIS terrorists operating in the Middle East right now. They have called for random beheadings all over the world. This Muslim woman beheaded a baby.
