No. there is no show that will ever be able to hold a candle to the greatness of top gear. But as long as it isint like blood sweat and gears it should be ok. A bit like the car show, with out all the plugging and bland presenters would be a great i rekon (and lets not forget cheap car challenges!)

No with a but... The reason why top gear is so popular is because of the cast. James/Jezza and Hampster are a perfect match and nothing on tv can come close to those personalities. Aussie top gear wont be able to find a cast that can match them.
But another aussie car show that is going to be in the same vein as UK top gear can only mean good things

i damn well hope so and i wanna be driving it too the veyron that is
i very much doubt and aussie version will be as good a the english one you will never match what clarkson, hammster and may do, but hopefully the aussie version will be good with a more aussie feel, sense of humour to it

As above. Never. It'll never be the same for another reason. Look at the cars they would have access to locally!

No, most Australian car shows that review vehicles seem more concerned about upsetting the car companies and don't really say what they think. Where Top Gear in England calls a spade a spade.

I'll hold judgement until I see the hosts performing thier duties.. If SBS typecast the main players well I'll enjoy it

As long as they look at Australian cars closely, I will be happy.

Never. The whole Jeremy/James/Hammond relationship is one of the things that makes Top Gear work so well. I can't see them finding hosts that interact quite the same.

No it wont. You see, in the UK speeding is still part of the culture. I have many times shot up the M1 at 100mph in a Mondeo when over there with work. Here, speed is politicaly incorrect and baaaad. We are turning, well GHEY, sorry, but its true. Speed forms a big part of Top Gear and 5th Gear. Here it will be all about airbags and baby seat anchor points.

Doubt they will find a host/hosts to get within a bulls roar of the originals. Plus access to the supercars that Euro has mmmmmmmm Koneigsegg (spelling) or the roads to test them on, Autobahn etc. Good luck to them all the same hope it works out. I could always guest as the Ozzie Stig on my days off too

Depends if the do it properly or not.
It they do a bad attempt at a shop, then people will not watch it. If it's done by peopl who are into and passionate about the cars then it will be as good or better than Top Gear.

They don't have the budget that BBC does, so there will be no extravagence that we all love.

Sure the cast in the UK's Top Gear is great, but I would say it only counts for 50% of the greatness.
The other 50% comes down to budget... For instance, the Polar Special with the Red Hilux. I don't foresee an SBS driven show will ever be doing something along the lines of.. In summary, no, I do not believe the aussie Top Gear will be even remotely as enjoyable to watch as the UK's..

i would like it to be as good but am doubting it.
It seems any aussie car show ends up looking like they're trying too hard, they test the high performance cars but also boring cars and have dodgy hosts, even though Glenn Ridge is a celebrity(sorta) and races cars even he was hard to watch. They just don't seem to have that thing like the UK top gear does, hammo, may and clarkson act like any 3 mates would if they were testing cars, they take the out of each other and sometimes the cars and act like they're having a ball doing it...if the australian version keeps that style it should be cool. guess we'll see. i thought they only just closed the auditions entry so won't be on for a while i'd say. |

I think they will love our HSV and FPVs personally, they will call them crude (which they are) but very enjoyable, and hopefully we will get some nice snaps of our finest all crossed up on a track..
As far as the Shannons commercial goes, I hate it! "For enthusiasts"- Unless your young, have anything with a V8, modded in any way.. Should I continue!! ;-) Nah seriously I think the ozzie top gear will be a laugh, even if they do use our outgoing 380 and make it into a convertable or something!

It'll end up with one of the car companies influencing the show to make their product sound better. Have you notice that The Car Show has nothing but Holden here and Holden there and we'll chuck in a different car here.Thats the impression i got anyway.
Most aussie hosts just don't have the humour, quality and enthusiasm as Top Gear UK. We also don't have a broad range of vehicle types.Where are our Supercar types like Ferarri, Lambo's, Mclaren, Pagani, ect. and then there are the top luxury models like Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW, etc. I'd like to think it'll work out and give the aussie car market a much needed boost for the right reasons, but somehow I don't think it's gonna work. Damn that was long and sorry.lol
