What a last game of the season before the finals.........
Overcast wet conditions and the 2 top teams of the comp fighting out who finishs on top for the season and also qualify for Asian competition and great payday for the winning club. Sydney Bling FC win 2-0 infront of 26oddthou fans. Atmosphere was electric and unbelieveably Aloisi played his best game in 2yrs IMO and what a time to do it, rippa second goal : Brosque was brilliant and the whole team for that matter, Kisel's first goal in the first half was a pearla ! Colosimo/Burgess in defense keep Victory at bay but they were unlucky a few times. Hernandez just couldn't save them this game. Always nice putting the sword through Victory.....top opposition and both teams are the most consistant in the comp.

How can you not care about thursday night? The premiers plate is like the minor premiership in the afl, nice big its the big dance that counts. As for your crowd...pfft! we get more than that against wellington on a wednesday night : On a side note if the a-league was like every other league on earth the match on sunday would've decided the league, and would have sold out the sfs for sure. |

Spot on the minor prem is what counts isn't it does in the EPL,SerieA,LaLiga etc....Finals are done to satisfy the people here to follow the norm from the "other" codes here.
Its a cop out but thats how it is here. Pffft where have you been all these years,Sydney ppl are fickle and don't support sports enough that how it is and has been for yonks !,doesn't bother me and my family we love attending and not battle crowds its a luxury to be honest haha If we win Thurs its a bonus, heard Corica is out hammy and Cruze ankle.....

That game was imo the best they played in a while. Wicked atmoshpere, specially at the sydney fc side behind the goal! That was nuts!

Thursday should be a cracker but with so many injuries i may even have to pull out the ol' predators from many years ago and slot into the left back position. Is the finals system the same as last year? ie winner goes through to host the grand final and loser into a home prelim? |

Thats right Archilino.
Winner of Melb - Syd decides home final. Loser into a home prelim to play one of GCU, phoenix, jets or glory.

I don't think the win was convincing.
I await the Sydney leg. I still think Sydney are in the box seat. A 2-1 loss is not a disaster. 2-0 would have been. Myrdja is also gone. Strikers falling like flies (losing Allsopp and Thompson, as well as Kruse) and losing both Celeski and Kemp for the season has stretched us enough. We have done very well to make it this far. Against Sydney on the weekend, Aloisi's goal was very good...pity Victory's defence has been crap last couple of weeks. Since Leijer's return, Vargas has really struggled. Perhaps cutting off his hair made him lose his mojo. Kisel's goal last week was very fortuitous, but sometimes you've just got to go for them and they stick...sort of Pondeljak's goal in the GF last season. I think this year's finals series is poised to be the best. The two biggest teams in the top two spots, with GCU also being dangerous. Good to see Wellington in there too.

Should be a very interesting 2nd leg, thinking about travelling up for it..
2-0 would have been a great result, to still come away with an advantage is important. Thompson mentioned before the game that he is hopeful of playing, would be a massive bonus if we get him back for that. Based on our previous results and experience in finals I would back our boys to come away with a good result in the 2nd leg. One things for sure it will go down to the last kick of the match.

UD a win is a win regardless,as I said expected Victory to win at home and suffering the loss last week.....
Unfortunately couldn't watch the game due to a school dinner for my daughter. Re Mrdja,to be honest the loop hole allowing to play or in that case any player with any club the last games of the season is a farce. Yep with all the injuries Vic has suffered but done well shows the depth and Merricks good spotting and thinking. For Syd having the best defense on the ladder doesn't win games though so they will need to score 2or3 in the return leg which won't be easy for sure. I hope I'm in town possibly away on business damn it !

Melbourne is suffering in the way Adelaide United did last year. We had so many injuries and we had to play the Asian Champions League in between. They did well to win the 1st leg but my money is on Sydney to win the next one easily.
P.S Wellington are a real dark horse, NZ football is on fire, in the World Cup and now the A-League finals. |

Agree re the NZ revival, at home Newcastle will be hard pressed to knock them over.
I expect Wellinton into GF ! good on them amazing turn around especially losing Smeltz up front last year. Victory have got a hell of lot more ticker and depth than Adelaide imo....you can never discount the Victory especially v's Sydney !

MVFC were a bit like St Kilda in that we had way more chances than Sydney in the GF (Leijer and Aziz Behich especially), and Bolton is a far more experienced and solid keeper than Langerak, so the shootout was always going to be tough.
I think we did well, considering we lost Celeski early in the season, didn't have Thompson for weeks and lost him in the first 10 minutes of the game, lost Kemp through injury, lost Mrdja through suspension as well as Thompson just before the season began. The Grand Final was the arguably best we've had in five seasons with the two biggest and best teams playing off. We were unlucky, but when the game was to be won, Sydney took it, so well done.

UD yep thats a ball game, can create manymany chances if not put away you pay.
I think both teams did well and deserved being in the GF full stop. MV had their late season injuries and so did SydFC...in fact with Aloisi out I thought we were done as he has been consistant/solid ala Viduka style game.... Reading the press this morn it had been reported Colosimo having played with Muscat and knowing other Victory players as you would went up and shook hands etc as a gesture and a yak and sore sport Merrick tells him to F off from his players and it got heated as you would expect.... I have admired his coaching over the years but for a leading figure in our game not good, I know the taste of a big loss is a bitter pill to swallow but he should hang his head in shame, all the more reason this Syd win is special, one, he who gets away with murder during games Muscat hits the post and Merricks above behaviour.... Healthy rivalry ? you betcha see you next season.
