Hey guys.
A while ago, I created a simple excel spreedsheet for working out a weekly budget for me and my partner after we were finding we had no money left at the end of each week. After creating this budget spreedsheet, we now have money left over at the end of the week for saving or just going out and having fun. After a few guys at work were talking to me about moving out of home, I sprused it up a bit and gave it to them and they said it really helped them too. So now, I present it to you: http://kaicooling.id.au/ftp/budget.xls Let me know what you think. I hope it help all of you like it did for me...

Nice work, I wish I could stick to a budget!! I made one a whilst back that helped, but then it got too confusing and gave up.
Here is one a bit more complex that my friend sent me (he's working for an accounting firm): Excel Personal Budget

Hey, that's nicely done. I knocked one up at home just to sort a few things out... but was more of a daily balance... allowed you to enter, say, the current price for a pack of smokes and then that would filter down through the sheet... more along the lines of the AMP sheet provided by xrated.
Very good way of getting an idea of what you need to do in order to save $x. Also a good way of seeing how much money is wasted on little things

It goes into a lot more detail re finances and i have called it Folder Finance as everything is stored and works within a A4 binder, a few hints and tips that you may want to add to yours are cash flow, i have found in my studies ( i have read jst about every book of it's type re budgets etc ) is very important, to often with a simple budget it says for example save $100 for bills then a few eeks down the track it falls over and people think the budget is broken / floored when in fact the $100 is correct but thats if every bill is static and constant. Also a key part of any budget is a % to invest, sounds funny but over time you need to make your money work for you not you for it. this usually sits around 10% then you have high medium and low risk investments. what i have done here is taken the10% ( say $10 as an example ) and used average age as an example, so say your 20 i would have 80% going into higher risk investment and 20% into low risk, now as you get older your risk decreases by a sliding scale, but this is fully variable. it also important to ( for me any way ) get a handle on overall % ie you should have a breakdown some thing like living 70% debt reduction 20% savings / investment 10% using the 20% to reduce the debts faster ie mortgage etc will save you thousands of dollars and also set you up faster. That in itself is tricky, ie what do you pay first? the system tells me with what money i have which thing to pay of for the best return on my $ moving forward with no guess work and it starts to get very poweful with this knowledge. once you have this sorted you can then change the % to something like living 75% savings / invest 15% charity 10% there's a whole heap of other things as well but a few things to look for, one other thing i have found with most / every other system is they are not flexible ie they say do it this way, with what you build make it so that any one can use it in the way they want. but all good work Pete |

I found many budget sheets too complecated... for example... how much do you spend on clothes - I'll only buy clothes, shoes, etc, when I have money to spend.
This sheet was more for the main outgoing expenses, and gives you what you have left over. Then it's up to you what you do with that... or maybe up to the Mrs... lol. But yeah... just a very simple one that you can fill out very quickly without much thought... enjoy!

This is great guys, Money Magazine and what not dont often take into account the younger people out there on a 30-40k Salary and need to budget and save for their first house/car etc...I have my own but i have to confess, it is a lot simpler than all of yours...im going to give them both a go i think...i like detail in my budget...lets me know exactly what i can and cant do.. that way i cant make excuses to spend on things
One hint i can give on saving...Make your Lunch at home! You will save $$$!!! I think i was spending $50 a week on lunch...I make it at home..may cost me $10 a week and i spend $10ish on drinks... |
