You could always get a hard drive and mod chip then just back them up straight onto your xbox. Thats what I do.

Change the cd-rom in the xbox to a DVD burner.

No that doesnt work
You can "backup" your already owned games so they dont get damaged by copying the game to your xbox which must have a Hard drive + chip in it, then you FTP the game to your PC hard drive, make an iso out of it by using a program such as craxtion and then burning the ISO image with something like Nero 6 It cannot be done any other way Chris

Firstly as everyone here mentioned you need a chip to play burnt games ie XecutorII etc.
To burn games you need a dvd burner, As Fordel mentioned you need to change it to an ISO file, I also have found that certain dvd's dont work. You need the Black dvd's for some reason.

Ill disagree there, i have used only Princo's and they are white printable labels, and silverish backing and they have worked with no problems at all
Though i have also tried laser branded silver dvd's which have worked fine in my xbox but when i have taken the discs to friends to test, they havent worked, so i really think comes down to chip/dvdrom/hdd in the xbox as well Chris
