Default China enters the world car market

China enters the world market with a new 4wd "landwind" made by Jiangling motors..

Not sure after looking at the 60kph safety test if I'd ever rush out and buy one.... seeing how bad the result is.. almost makes you feel sick.

"The new Landwind SUV made by Chinese automaker Jiangling Motors failed the frontal crash test. The Association stated that the driver would not have survived the 64kph(40mph) test."

remember this is 64kph.......!

Wow. See on the second video, the dummies head appears to go between the steering wheel and dashboard. Fat lot of good the airbag does. I'd feel sorry for the fools who buy that car. Even still, there are too many people who value price over safety.

yeah i thought that too. i remember a thread that was here a while ago saying how most chinese auto makers simply do carbon copies of european manufacturers cars designs, just a heck of alot cheaper.. so that you cant tell the difference. the difference in the collision is alot different though ;)

I bet that thing would be pathetic to drive

http://www.landwind.com/jiazu/x6/table_1.htm

I know its all in Chinese, but you can somewhat figure out some key specs, i.e. the 2.4L engine makes a whopping 92kw of power and 195 Newton-Meters of torque. Add to that, its got a ~2500kg weight. Max speed is 140km/h.

All in all it doesn't sound too attractive to me.

Yep .. just what we all need. Another hopeless, cheap-***, Asian car manufacturer. Another company which will bring nothing to the industry other than a capability to copy everyone elses designs, and exploit a cheap labour market undercut everyone elses pricing. You get what you pay for. That's why Mercs, BMWs, etc are "expensive" ...

Instead of arguing between Ford/Holden/Chrysler/etc we should be focusing on shaming people away from these bombs. The less "acceptable" heaps like this (and other un-named Korean brands) are, maybe they'll drop out of existence???

As much as I joke about it, this is just the beginning. It is my firm belief that if current economic and production trends continue, we will see a totally Chinese produced Commodore within 10 years time. Look at the direction GM are taking with a lot of their products now, it's ENTIRELY in the name of low cost (be that materials and manufacturing).

This (mis)engineered Chinese domestic (Frontera) is a taste of things to come!

I'm not 100% sure on Australian Design Rules, are imported cars required to meet these standards aswell? Surely a vehicle like this shouldn't be allowed on the road in most countries?

I saw that - the sheetmetal across the roof ripped clean apart - looks like the metal is a bit thin.
The Chinese even copied a Daewoo Matiz - the question is why would you want to copy a Matiz????

I just watched the video. That is just sick. Why would anyone wabt to put there name on a car like that. They should never be allowed in Australia. Because theyre going to be cheap (Id say) they will probably be an "ideal" 1st car. Imagine that. Just think about the consequences.

It'd look the same as any other car hit @ 100km/h head on by a semi-trailer. Ie, not much left of it at all. I hope it doesn't make it here, that's for sure, but does any one have any crash test results of the "real" Frontera?

What other cars have scored "0" on the NCAP crash test?

that is horrendous....they are selling them in France already, i saw an ad for it in a flight magazine. I dont know how it passed the required tests...mind you im not very educated in this matter, but if it passed in Europe, i think we can safely assume it will pass here in Australia.

Off Topic: India soon to be entering the passenger car export business, wonder if their stuff will be any better/worse?

A truth for one to realise is that the Chinese car industry is THE worst in the world interms of quality, safety and ripping off designs. Chinese enterprises value only one thing; profit, so they cut corners on design, engineering, enviornmental friendliness, efficiency, the lot, since they have to sell at already rock bottom prices. Never EVER buy a Chinese made car. At least in a Hyundai, you will survive a 60kph crash. I would rather be in a Hyndai, Daewoo or Kia than any car from China, and that includes the big brands such as VW.
