Samsung Galaxy Tablet

I purchased a tablet for my son for his birthday and I've got a question for those who use these types of devices. I noticed that apps continue to run in the background when you hit the little house icon. How can I make apps shut down automatically so when you go back to the main screen, the app has closed. I know I can hit the other icon next to it and close them one by one, but I'd like it to work the same as my iPad when you hit the home button.

I know multi tasking is a great thing. But when you have a child who might play 4or 5 games in a short period of time, having them all running in the background I assume will impact performance and shorten battery life.

I quite like the Samsung tablet. It's a cool little device.

In the bottom of the screen should be an arrow icon. hit that and some icons pop up. one will be task manager. hit that then press close all.

Ok cool. I'll give it a try. the other-way is one at a time.

Can you actually make that default to closing apps on exit? Or is it just how it works?

i have an older tablet that runs on windows type software, not all the time but every now and again i turn it off/shut it down completely to assure there is nothing running next time i start it up, as opposed to putting it in sleep mode, i even do this on my smart phone every now and again, so i dont end up with 70 applications running in the back ground, using all the memory/cpu resources and slowing it down, thats my theory anyway

Going on my Galaxy S2 smartphone ... i use the Task Manager .... and then close all applications. My 4yo loves to play one thing ... and then another ... and then 10 more without closing properly.

I am used to it now .... but always have Task Manager icon setup on my main screen.

you could use an app such as juicedefender or a task killer app.

Generally android doesnt need one though. It automatically closes apps if it needs the ram.

Also which Tab have you got?

Clean Master (Cleaner) for task killing and general housekeeping. Awesome app! It doesn't automatically close the app, like you want, but it will prompt you when memory gets full etc..

Another thing I found too ... there should be a widget available to show onscreen to tell you how many apps are currently open ... it should be one of the basic ones already on the device as part of the OS. Takes up small real estate on the screen (even on a smartphone)

This is something that has annoyed me about Android about being able to explicitly close apps via a menu option.

Although I do say I have never had any issues with memory it's just habit to close something if you're not using it.

On my phone you can use the task manager app or you just hold down the home icon and swipe it across the app to get rid of it.

I thought Android was similar to iOS in that when you close the apps it'll essentially pause the app and you can multitask later if you need.

On your iPad you'll find you'll still need to close the apps by double clicking the home button then touch and hold, then touch the delete symbol. Virtually the same as Android, just different steps.

Yup, some apps multitask and you terminate them as you described.

I never knew that.i did what you said and everything was running. Killed everything

As suggested above, clean master. I download it and I think it does what I need. Thanks again guys for all your help. I'm new to Android, so I'm still coming to grips with it. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
