Default Ford Modulars dominate at this weekends PSCA Event in Las Vegas

PSCA: John Mihovetz led the list of winners at the PSCA’s Shootout After Sundown at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday night after he downed veteran John Scialpi in the final, 6.20 to a slowing 8.24. Gary Soulages drove his Ford Lightining pickup to an impressive win in Outlaw 10.5, qualifying #1 with a 6.86 and earning the win with a 6.98 to 7.06 rout of Ron Weems’ GTO. Sandi Wold also picked up a win on the weekend in Extreme Drag Radial, cranking off a 7.79 to easily handle the slowing 9.19 of Jeff Longden.

3 Ford modular powered cars took out the Top 3 classes in the PSCA. as fantastic an achievement as that is, what is ever greater is all 3 engines were built by Accufab.

Pro Street (like our Top Doorslammer with 5-sec & 6-sec turbo, NOS & blown cars)
John Mihovetz won running a 6.20@232 4.6L Twin Turbo

Outlaw 10.5 (6-sec cars running a 10.5'' wide tyre)
Gary Soulages 6.98 4.6L Twin Turbo

Extreme Radial (7-sec cars running on ET Street type tyres)
Sandi Wold 4.6L Single 88mm Turbo

John likes the alloy Teksid blocks from the 93-97 Lincoln or 96-98 Mustang (same block i have) but any alloy or cast block is good
Manley Billet Steel rods
JE Pistons roughly 11.25:1 comp
Ford GT Supercar heads ported, Manley valves. factory lifters, John grinds his own cams.
C16/Q16 fuel

John makes 2500hp
Gary is probably pumping out 2100hp now.
Sandi is making around 1500-1600hp

And what crank ?
So really without too many mods you can pump alot of boost into these mod motors ?
How far can you push a std one and what the weak link ?

factory crank with some mods has gone 6.23@232 aftermarket Bryant crank has seen a 6.19@235

a standard 4.6L block with factory internals, not far have seen some make it to 700+hp. throw in pistons & rods, good tune u can make inexcess of 1200hp. to make around 1200hp u don't need to go into alot of work, pushing past 1500hp is a different story. alot of work should go into it but not many people do it. weak point on the modular, even though its a 6-bolt main setup the caps (mainly 2) tends to walk a bit.

the 5.4 alloy & cast blocks are very strong, and would be a good choice.

If the 5.4s are a better block why are they all using 4.6L ?
Is that to do with the rules ?
Its a pitty these things are so wide would love to slip one in the XL

The 4.6l blocks handle the power better , plus they rev easier than the nuggety 5.4's

as Danny said, the 4.6L revs alot freer and it's the combo they have done the most R&D on as it's more readily available than the 5.4L in the US. MMR is using a 5.4L and it proven to be the goods. a de-stroked 5.4 is good also, u can rev the hell out of it

the news i hear from the US is that MMR is just about to complete a full tube Mustang with a 5.4 which they intend on racing, going head to head not just with Accufab, but they have the intention of running it in NHRA Pro Mod (equivalent to our doorslammers) possibly being the first modular to run 5-seconds. knowing John from Accufab he won't give up without a fight
