Default Going Racing!

Alrighty,

going down to Townsville dragway on Saturday night.

What should I expect? I've never raced before...

I don't plan on stalling my car up as I don't have a tranny cooler and I don't want to lunch my gearbox as I have a 4 hour drive home afterwards.

Radiator overflow bottle?
I know the tread on my tyres is fine...All my lights work...
I know to wear clothes that cover me, shoes and an approved helmet.
They are only street meets, so I don't think they are too strict.

Umm, what about at the lights? Guess if I'm not stalling it up, to just mash the pedal when the light goes green. I'm assuming it's worth my while to use manual mode.

Will I have to run more then half a tank of juice? Just in case?
What kind of times should I expect? Got the usual mods...full exhaust, high flow cat, intake, etc etc...

I'm thinking maybe a mid 15 with a good 60ft?

Can't wait to go down =) Gonna challenge my mate in his VLT.

F6 Lower intake, K&N filter, 3in" intake piping, Hurricane headers (same design as 4490s but slighly larger secondarys), 2.5in" high flow cat, 2.5in" catback, single centre muffler, CAPA generic 98 tune...

I dont know about up there but when I wanted to have a run down here they said I had to have a tail shaft loop/support before I could race (I didnt want to do it so didnt race). Expected time sounds about right. Surely the gearboxes arent that weak that you cant even give it a couple of seconds without it breaking?

Tailshaft loops are here are reccommended, but not enforced at the street meets.

And the gearboxes, I dunno, heard bad things and I'm already on my 2nd.

Radiator overflow bottle - Just use a coke bottle (plastic) and feed the overflow hose into that. Secure the hose in with tape and secure the bottle with cable ties to the brake master cylinder.

As for stalling it up, I have made a heap of passes in mine and I've always stalled it up. My box is standard, doesn't even have a cooler, and is still going strong.

One question RG about the overflow bottle, Isn't that what the expansion tank does =S

Or is there an actual hose that comes off the expansion tank in case of an overflow?

There is an overflow from the expansion tank, pretty sure the BA has it too.

bother with manual mode after a few passes.

Your first pass is gonna happen so quick you wont know it happened.

Put it in perf mode, leave it to its own devices and do a couple of runs, see how your times go, then feel free to manualise it.

Burnouts aren't important for u either since you are running normal street tyres, but you might as well do 1 @ the start for kicks

townsville drags is very very relaxed and not very busy, you will easily get 8 or more runs in, in the time you are there. stall it up mate your tranny shouldn't die, there not that weak.

If you want to know go to the VIC section where we had a recent drag day and see what some of the stock standard cars were doing including ours and everyone in a standard B series were getting 15.5 or 16.5 i can't remeber but EVERY run was the same lol

after the second amber then go hal, don't wait for the green.
tyre pressure 22psi
stall it up a lil bit, 1750rpm maybe
fog lights off makes better video
was planning on being there this weekend as well but one of the guys has his gearbox out so we are all gunna wait

You wont need the overflow bottle on the BA, more trouble than its worth with the sealed system they have. I don't have an external tranny cooler on mine either.

Just keep the engine shut down as much as possible & the bonnet up while you're waiting in the lanes to keep engine temps as low as possible. Some blokes buy a couple of bags of party ice wrap them in plastic and lay them out along the intake manifold in between runs. I've never done it!

Get on the line for the first one, in PERF mode; then stomp n' steer.

If your not going to stall up deep stage the car till theirs only one light on,should help your 60s.A burnout wont help but is obviously alot of fun.Good luck,hope you snag a 14.99 or better.

Had an absolute BALL!!

First run was great, just put her in PERF and stomped it, got around a 15.7 with a .7ish reaction and 60ft in the region of 2.2 - 2.5.

Best run of the night was a 15.443 @ 90mph.

Chucked a few skids and tried a few different things! I was suprised I was even getting wheelspin off the line when I stalled it up!!

15.443 @ 90mph is a good time, well done. The 60ft in the region of 2.2 - 2.5 gives you all the answers.

This is the exact results for my best run.

Reaction: 1.124
60ft: 2.099
ET: 15.448 (I misread the 8 as a 3)
ES: 89.10mph.

Ordered an underdrive pulley and belt, and hopefully get the car tuned before I go back. Maybe then I'll crack a 14.99. I hope so!

I just wish 1st gear wasn't a moonshot. I'm only getting into 3rd about 50m from the finish line. Maybe it's time for a stally as well.

I think 4.11s might be overkill for what I'm trying to achieve!

if you want the most out of 3rd gear youll need 4.11s.About 2250 at 100kmh in 4th gear,not to bad.

Most of the quickest N/As run these gears.
