So i was wondering if anybody had a decent guide to cleaning the engine of the AU. I have been told just spraying abit of degreasing soap and washing it off is good but i was wondering if there is anything i should avoid touching with water or products when attempting this process... I just dont want to wreck anything just to have a clean engine..

Well just a quick reply
Avoid getting water into cold air intake of course. Mos titem ar)e sealed. When I have done it I do it in sections. I do under the engine first to remove big oil/dirt first, mainly because the grass is dry and when you do the top it still washes down. Then I would do left front and rear of the engine, using a garden hose with a gun attachment (so you can turn the water on/off easy). Then the right. Next I would take the car for a quick drive (once around the block), pop the bonnet again and look for any spots I had missed. Check the battery and make sure its clear of water and thats about it I guess. UK

as long as you keep the water away from the intake or the coilpack you'll be fine. i've always found that motors aren't usually dirty as much as they are just oily. usually a decent rag or three plus a bit of degreaser goes a long way.

i`d probably keep as much water and crap off the alternator if possible, if i clean mine i put some plastic over it and avoid putting spray directly on it, while they can take a bit of splash, any dirt and grit that ends up inside of it will not be good for it.
