Default 10K for a drag car

As the title suggests, me and my father in law, want to build a drag car.

Budget 10k, doesnt matter what make or model, want it to run at least mid to low 11's.

What would you guys build in the same situation.

Cheers

Scott

Centura 265ci's and a crap load of nitros.

Did I mention I like nitros?

Orrrr,a VT11-VX Gen111 thats stripped and unopened bar cam/springs.Pick up an average condition on the outside Gen111 car and chuck the 5-6k change at it.

I voted for a 250 Cortina too. Check out Whoosha's build thread. He isn't doing 11's yet but he looks to be having heaps of fun for a car that wouldn't owe him much.

TT Soarer and NOS - all of $5000 right there.
Still leaves you $5000 to play with.

Will be interesting to see what you can come up with
To get a car to do consistent low 11s for 10k will not be easy but not impossible

EA with EF 4.0, a silly sized turbo and a massive stall.

The other 8.5k can be kept to replace parts as you break them.

I could point you in the the right direction of one of the soarer gurus if you want Black F6. But basically from what I remember it's a Dual dump pipe (the standard dump pipe is literally a T shape so the gases blow into each other), a 3" exhaust from the dump pipe, a Fuel cut defender(this is needed for the next bit) and a boost controller. Generally it needs 17-18 psi.

I'm not sure what the general V-max is for a mid to low 11 but I can tell that all soarers have a hard cut 180km/h speed limiter.

I hope this helps a little.

Soarer is a heavy luxo barge though..
A lot can be done to reduce weight..
Early big rod 1UZ engine is good for 500 rwhp..

Keep in mind a std SOHC or TOHC 4.0 Ford 6 can handle over 400 rwkw
on E85 ...Alittle of a grenade with std rods..
Ford 6 engines are FAR cheaper to re-build by about 1/2 the budget...
Trust me..
A powerglide or T400 would complete the combo.. For reliability / consistency...

all out drag car, and not for street, for around $10k i'd go this http://www.my105.com/ListingDetails/...8/Default.aspx

a factory unopened 1JZ (good for 800hp and very reliable) $1000

67mm Precision 850hp turbo $1300 (u can get a cheap ebay turbo for under $500)

import a 1000hp Powerglide from US for under $2k (or i'd get Norm @ Northmead Auto to do a 700hp one for about $1200 light car and turbo are a bit easier on the box)

few other bits n pieces $2-$3k. if u can do a bit of fab work yourself. for $10-$12k u got yourself a serious car capable of running mid-high 8's

Strange as it may seem if you want to keep it 4 cyl..
The 3RZ turbocharged makes for a strong engine in an Escort..
This is the 2RZ with late model 3RZ head etc for capacity class rules..

Good damn i hate those heads worst ever to try repair they warp like **** and are almost impossible to straighten then you gotta send hours reaming the buckets to get them good again i'm glad i'll never have to work on them again or a 3y or 4y or 5m or 7m or a 21r or 22r .....
Toyota made some real good motors possibly the best inline 6 ever but **** did they make some **** ones. Seriusly who makes exhaust studs that go through to water you know how hard they are to get out??

Agreed, although mine cost over 10k with me doing the work, but I reckon it's achievable with 10k depends how much you can do yourself.

go for a stout amd reliable driveline... that is where the 10k should go imho...

The body/make/model it sits is is a moot point....

Buy a stat damaged car and throw the bullet proof--->goes like a bullet driveline into it

Your OP is vaugue, does the 10k budget include trailor, storage, tow vechicle, rego or engineering?

A decent towable and last for ever tandem trailor will cost upwards of 2k if you get lucky.... does that only leave 8k for go fast?>

the Toyota engines are just too good to pass up. $ for $ best engines to do a budget build. if u can build an 8-sec car for $10k or an 11-sec car for $10k i know which option i'd take

the most economical and cheapest way is to buy someone else's hard work and hard earned spent money. i have seen unfinished projects that people have spent $20k+ on sell for $5k. go over it and make sure all is good before you buy it. no point starting from scratch if u dont need to. the money should go into the chassis, that is the most important part. no point building an engine if the chassis is not setup right, your shooting yourself in the foot before you even get started. the car on my105 has run low 9's almost 8's and he only wants $4k for it, that in my eyes is a bargain and a half. if the engine is showing power to run 9's and ur running 11's because the car isn't setup properly, what's the point? you want a good consistent car.

you can pick up good reliable strong boxes for around $2k. Neal Trans in the US can get a 1000hp powerglide delivered to your door for under $2k. get the right person to build you a box and it will last a while.

Running low 11's in a modified street car will eat up you budget. IF you do it properly. firstly, If you want to run a Calder, then you will need Harness and at least a 1/2 roll cage. The engine is the easy part. you can build a reasonable HP engine under 5k. BUT.. to make it realiable you will nedd to upgrade diff, axles, gearbox, tailshaft. this is where the $$$'s will start adding up. If it's purely for fun and you dont mind breaking things, then thats a different story.
Best bet, look on ebay and see whats on there. Buy someone elses hard work and toil. But a car less engine, cheapest way to do thinks i reakon.

BTW.. woosha will only run 11's in hid corty when he ditches the 250 and puts in a windsor!!!!!!

SOarer no problems . Pick one up rego for 3-4k . Bolt Ons , Dumps Zorst , FMIC , EBC , Adj Cam gear , Emanage Ultimate ( removes speed cut as well as fuel & Ign tuning ) , Inj , Walbro pump , Shift kit & Manual shift box , E85 fuel & Slingshot convertor .

That will get you mid 11's no problems . Want lower , then throw a small shot of gas at it , then you will be running flat 11's maybe a high 10 . Which you could ballast or dial some boost out of it to try and top qualify in Super Street 11.000's

I dont have the EMU or INj or E85 and have gone 11.8 @ 116mph .

a 10k budget would allow for a single manifold & GT3076r or a bigger Precision turbo with all the above and would be looking into bottom 11's on pump fuel or well into the 10's on E85 and bigger boost !
