It was a fine till i went to calder and it developed a small whinning noise after the first run then two months later it went bang...i thought the box fell out of the car. It may of been the axel hop i got in first gear on the first run but i still really not sure what happened.

I think you should get an auto for the drags, till you learn how to use a manual box.
If you had been feeding the fat properly you would not have got axle tramp off the line.
However I do feel for your loss, its an expensive way to learn how to launch.

And I thought the two teeth off mine was bad!

What box is it? I have a cluster shaft from an EA box that'll work out way cheaper, it'll be noisey as though.

There is noway in hell i would spoil a great car with an auto box there only for those who know nothing about using a clutch and those who r lazy.
I have seen the best of drag racers get axel tramp not saying i'm the best as it was my first run at calder in over 15 years. Maybe Ford could of built a stronger box i mean the car itself has only done 65000 k's.

Axle tramp aint caused solely by launching technique.

rear end setup and driveline has as much to do with it, ive seen plenty of cars with differnet drivers axle tramp

Way to make yourself look like an ***. Anyone who is serious about drag racing will stick with the auto, and aside form that I sure as hell know how to use a clutch (my EA is manual) but I much prefer to drive an auto (my XA). It's nothing to do with lazyness it's driver preferance.

Gee some people a touchy...that my opinion. I'm not a serious drag racer but if i was i know what box i would rather.

Give it a break man. You only need a few extra RPM and it will either tramp or spin. Nerves can also play a part in a launch.

Ok it has already been said but I will repeat all topline drag racers use auto boxes,to avoid axle tramp,to give a better launch with less or no wheel spin and to minimise a blown donk due to over revving.
Yes these things can still occur using an auto box but they are minimised by using an auto.

As for nerves if your nervous you should'nt be there until such time as you can control the nerves and learn how to use them to your advantage.

Now everybody has to start somewhere I would suggest before hitting the strip and lunching a g/box or donk, start with motorkhanas,go karts etc.
