Has anyone dabbled with installing fully electric front seats in a Mondeo?
I remain amazed that a Ford wearing the Titanium badge in 2011 that has a lot of the same tech as an E Class Merc has the same seats as my old BA XT from many years ago! Having just moved out of a BF Fairlane with 10 way adjustable seats ( not to mention memory key with radio, mirrors and HVAC setting stored for each key ) - I really miss getting the adjustments just right. It seems most other Titanium (X) models overseas get fully electric seats - I wonder if they can be obtained and fitted - has anyone investigated please?

I am lead to believe this was only an option as part of the "Full Leather" seat package throughout the MA - MC range in the overseas markets.
Not sure if the MD has it locally, but I am sure it is an option overseas.

But I haven't even got so far as locating the right seats - let alone finding out how exorbitant the freight is going to be. I also haven't brought myself to asking the parts department at the local dealer given that this component was never sold in Australia and then I shudder to think what their price would be. I have read that the new MD has full electric seats in Australia but I don't know if they have memory. To be honest I'd rather have a manual drivers seat than an electric one without memory! Whereabouts are you? If we locate a source we should work together.

Oh yes, that UK freight can be so terribly exorbitant. Have you tried DHL sweetie? |

Just did a DHL quote for UK to Aus for 2 front seats = $2,050 without insurance
Cheaper to fly over myself, collect them and fly back I reckon. The search continues.....

Mate of mine freighted a seat base from Germany > AU for just over $100 only a few years back. Fair bit of weight in it too.
You would need someone over there to sepate the seats into bases & backs, so you can box them better, and send them as 4 boxes. Shop around for a better freight quote, or look at a freight forwarder doing container consolidations, as it will be much cheaper than the 3-4 day air freight that DHL do. |

That sounds much better - I think the currency conversion doesn't help Oz purchasers in Europe either

I haven't got URLs just now, but I've seen some threads on the TalkFord forums on this topic that I think would be worth your time searching (if you haven't already) before you commit too much cash. One gotcha would be whether your car has the wiring and electrics in place to support the new seats as a drop-in addition - apparently the presence or absence of certain contacts in the fuse box is a giveaway for this.
Evidently, the auto reverse dipping mirrors is also a function of the seat memory module (I read up on it when I was trying to understand why this feature that's clearly documented in the manual, absolutely doesn't work on my car). To the earlier question, I can confirm that MD in Australia has fully electric seats and auto reverse dipping mirrors as standard in Trend spec and higher (as I got to play with it on my test drive). |

This is for my own edification as much as anything...
TalkFord discussion on fitting 8-way power seats: http://www.talkford.com/community/to...y-power-seats/ Fuse box layouts on Ford Wiki: http://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php?...ormation_-_Mk4 Fuse locations that might be significant (rear fuse box): FA10 – 30A – Power seat, driver FB9 – 30A – Power seat, passenger FC7 – 5A – Power seat memory module As I was cleaning the car yesterday I took a look around. The fuses are present and there are unused plug sockets under the (unpowered) passenger and (unheated) rear seats. I didn't want to unplug my driver's seat to check all the contacts, but based on this I'm confident that Australian-market MC Titaniums should have the full wiring installed. |
