Hi All, This is my first post so I hope this is ok.
I have just purchased a Mk2 Cortina barnfind sight unseen. To get ready to pick it up I was hoping to find out where the jacking points are. Also the best place to tow the car onto a trailer at the front of the car, hopefully without damaging it. It has been sitting since 1985, I think, any other tips for relocation? Also if anyone has a PDF copy of the owners manual it would be greatly appreciated. I will update this site with my experiences, good, bad and ugly. Thanks in advance Ray |

Thanks for that link, I already found that, I was hoping for the owners manual that should show the jacking points etc. It is strange that the workshop manual is easier to track down than the owners manual. I am assuming they had an owners manual! Cheers And thanks again!! |

Looking at this site, it looks like they have a tube to insert the Jack into. It’ll be just behind the front wheels and just in front of the rears. Similar to the Sierra… not a fan of it.

Dads Anglia had the same. From memory they eventually collapsed. UK rust. |

I would just use a trolley jack and get it centred under the engine crossmember. Same as the towing point as long as you are careful.
You are after all getting it ready to be trailered off.

Hi All,
Thanks for all your comments and offers of help, it is a great community. I am a little confused about decoding my VIN, I read it as CG75HB 15821 260055 12833 D T Z Y Aust, Broardmeadows, ??, 1968, Jan, Serial No, ????, 4 door bench seat 1600 cc, 4 speed column shift, ???, Trim Palomino. Does this look correct and can anyone fill in the ???? For interest it has a 1600 with a Weber 32 DFM 5 carby. but a std exhaust manifold Cheers and thanks in advance Ray |

Everything is correct there, colour will be Zircon green metallic. Don't have any info on the trim codes but Palomino sounds about right for that body colour.
Not sure on the carb, thought they were 28/36 DCD on the Mk1 and 32/36 DGV on Mk2. Could you post a pic of it or any numbers/ markings on the manifold? *Edit* just had a look and the DFM was used on the Mk2

Hi All,
The car is almost ready to get back on the road. While preparing for rego I found the engine number it is CM14128. Does this sound right? It is a 1600 and the number on the strut tower and engine block seem to be the same, but very hard to read. Does anyone have info for the engine from this number or the vin CG75HB 15821 260055 12833 D T Z Y Thanks in advance |

Only GTs had the Weber and they were 32/32
and alot of the CKD kits where actually assembled in Sydney i know both of mine were and they all start with CG The number on the RH strut tower is the engine number the Chassis number is on the radiator support panel. |

Hi Chappy60,
That means that somewhere along the way my car had a webber 32/32 installed. That explains the exhaust manifold rather than extractors. Whoever did it knew what they were doing as it was almost the only thing done correct on this car!! For interest is it worth changing over to the extractors? Thanks for the info Cheers Ray |

If the exhaust has had it i would change it
to extractors they do help also change the diff ratio to a 3.77 if not already done or a 3.9 which is a GT spec it should be a HC engine if you do a compression check a HC was 188 and a LC was 170 at cranking speed |
