Default 2019 Shelby Mustang GT500

Finally announced as going into production as a 2019 model. Over 700 hp, final power figure not released till a later date. Strangely just a teaser video at the moment.

I'd fall off my chair if we did.

Seems to me One Ford is a thing only when it suits Dearborn.

I would have bought a GT350 in a heartbeat.

They have the car, why won't they build it?

I think it’s the cost of converting the 5.2 to RHD, that’s why I find it unbelievable that they wouldn’t at least do the Bullitt which is a nobrainer - as most of the work is done (and there would be zero development cost for RHD).

I think there is zero chance of a GT350 or a GT500 here.

I think initially the RHD Mustang was a toe in the water exercise to see how it would go. And it has gone way past where they thought it would. Maybe now that the initial trepidation about the RHD Mustang has passed they will be more willing to grow it's appeal with more models in the range?

Makes more sense. Why limit it's appeal?

The GT350 was too early in the program for potential RHD. Maybe cause the GT500 is much later they will look to make it in RHD?

I'd expect it to be around 100-120k. Thousands of people were willing to throw that sort of money at Commodores so it's not even an issue.

The 2014 model was 55k US so about double what a Mustang GT was. So I think if you double the price of a GT here you would be in the ball park.

Allocate 1,000 builds to RHD and watch UK and Australia snap them up.

So let me get this right, in the Camaro thread you suggest people would have rocks in their head to lay down 90k on a Camaro, yet here you suggest a 120k Mustang is quite acceptable because thousands of people dropped that sort of money on Commodores...

Cause the Camaro SS is comparable in price to a Mustang GT, yet it will be 30k more expensive here after conversion. My point was it is massively overpriced to a comparable car.

Nothing to do with a GT500. If it was a ZL1 for 90k I would not be saying people have rocks in there head for buying one.

Missed my point entirely

Two completely different cars, one is bottom of the barrel the other is top of the tree.

Not my style of car but at 120k a gt500 would be a comparative steal.

Sorry, im not talking about the cars in particular, im talking about why people spend what they do on what they buy.

Since when has price point matter to Aussie performance car buyers, you could buy an FGX XR8 Sprint for 70k but pleanty of people bought the 100k Commodore even though the Sprint was the better buy bang for buck.

People will buy what they prefer, its just hard to take anything you say serious because its all roses and rainbows for Ford and doom and gloom for Holden/HSV.

It is not bottom of the barrel at all.

When there is no alternative for someone who wouldn't be caught dead driving a blue oval product, 90k for a Camaro is that mans steal.

Of course it's bottom of the barrel, same as a mustang gt is.

Reverse the companies and I would have changed in a heartbeat. $30k is 15 cases of Dom Perignon!

Yet another one bites the dust.

From the article -

"Ford Australia has confirmed the Mustang Shelby GT500 is a US-only model. Damion Smy, head of product communications for Ford Australia, has informed us: “The recently announced Mustang Shelby GT500 is a US market model. We have no announcements to make regarding this model for Australia.”

Says the bloke who claimed Mondeo was second best in segment to Camry in November when the figures were right in front of his face to confirm otherwise...lol

Medium Cars under $60,000 – Toyota is still dominating this segment, despite the Aussie-built Camry being replaced by the US-spec model. During December the sales took a bit of a dive from the previous month, however, it still remains the nameplate of choice.

Top 5 for 2017 overall:
1.Toyota Camry – 23,620 (down from 26,485 in 2016)
2.Mazda6 – 3647 (down from 4369)
3.Ford Mondeo – 2959 (down from 3122)
4.Volkswagen Passat – 2463 (down from 3090)
5.Subaru Liberty – 2023 (down from 3495)

Now, now, we were talking December results when you politely used that line and Mondeo was 5th in December, down from 4th where it was only 1 unit ahead of Octavia.
The thread was December results, no one mentioned overall results and regardless, you were still wrong.
Now i'd insert 4 face slaps but it doesnt make you any less correct so i'll refrain.

hmmm interesting comment.
I'll wait and see. I thought the Demon was focused on the strip whereas the GT500 was circuit, taking GT350 to the next level (hence all the spy pics featuring the camo GT500 with a GT3 in tow).
