Apologies if this has popped up in other threads...
Damn the pollies bickering on the hill and so called debt and whatever. Just checked and I have a couple of notes in my wallet...These people have NOTHING IOW, this is a major disaster that needs immediate action and we have an armed force that more than anything else has the ability to deliver aide to these poor people. Come on Aussie's.

The government's committed $10mil. Feel free to donate more if you wish.
Given that the Phillipines is the most frequent target of typhoons geographically, given how many times in the past they have had major casualties as a result (1991 for example was much bigger than this one), and given they are relatively strong economically at the moment, I'm more interested to know what the Phillipines themselves plan to do to prevent a tragedy of this scale happening again. Thus far, they've been less than proactive about it, and I for one resent them trying to guilt-trip us into donating more by blaming it (and therefore us, indirectly) on global warming. |

A certain country offered $100,000 in aid. I need to add that this country offered another $100,000 as the need arises from their Red Cross disaster relief fund. HELLO? The need is evident. And this from the most populated country in the world.
The US has pledged $20mil plus military assistance, Britain has pledged $16mil, AU has pledged $10mil, Japan pledged $10mil, New Zealand pledged $1.7mil and Taiwan pledged $200,000. This is humanitarian aid. I've already donated to the American Red Cross. |

Australia has increased its contribution to $30 million. That place got absolutely demolished and it will only get worse as people become more desperate for the basics.

Sad about the looting though, didn't it start 2-3days after the typhoon? http://news.yahoo.com/aquino-under-p...2--sector.html Does anyone know much time the Philippines had as far as warning that this typhoon would hit? |

Lets see if Christine MILNE and her ilk from the greenies get up in arms about warships now. Good old yanks to the rescue again, the world can always rely on them to be there in a crisis, war time or peace time.

http://ph.news.yahoo.com/japan-medic...171743719.html
Japan's Medical Team for Disaster Relief is there with their state-of-the-art mobile Xray kits using tablets. Japan developed this technology after the 2011 tsunami when they realized this is what was needed then. The Japanese created this and the medics (doctors, nurses, radiologists, pharmacists, cariologists and med techs) are at Tacloban treating those who need medical attention with this new technology. This is the first time this new tech is being used. Note: China has their new "Peace Ark." The world's newest and biggest hospital ship which is sitting in Shanghai harbor. Go figure. http://ph.news.yahoo.com/no-sign-hel...094802041.html If a disaster like Haiyan struck China you know the world would still respond. |
