Default Moving to Qld?

Hi,

Me and my missus are considering packing up and moving to qld from wa. Mainly Toowoomba/Ipswich area. I am a Reachtruck+forklift operator with 8 years experience and also a non qualified floor and bathroom tiler with 4 years experience. I also have my car sales license. My missus is a trust account manager and property manager. Just seeing if anyone has any input regarding housing/employment location etc.

Just sold some properties here and once that is over and done with we will jump on a plane for a look. From there we will make up our minds and sell our other property.

Main reason for moving is that we made some money during the boom but wa is pretty exp now and not what we want anymore after having lived in europe for a number of years.

Thanks

Just be aware that Qld has a licencing system if you want to ply a trade. It's really a tax grab, but you can be pinged if you aren't qualified ...look up Queensland Building Services Authority for more info.

Ispwich is not palm trees and lagoons. It sits on a coal field and was the Midland Railways of Brisbane. It is 5°C warmer and 5 °C cooler than Brisbane.

Humidity can be pretty savage compared to Perth, with actual heat content of the air exceeding that of Perth during summer. There is nothing that compares to South East Qld's late winter and spring. Brisbane and it north/south environs are far more populated than Mandurah to Yanchep, with a lot of facilities. Beaches are pretty schitty in comparison, but who cares if they're covered with good looking females. A lot less restaurants and night clubs per capita, but Perth/Freo has the highest ratio than anywhere so no surprise there.

That's all about right!
Most of the hot/cold doesn't apply to Toowoomba, which is considerably colder in winter & cooler in summer.

Ipswich has been going ahead a bit lately, however it really is just a dormitory for Brisbane evidenced by the Ipswich Motorway each day.

Public infrastructure is a mess, generally, although if you are willing to travel there is still some great property around pretty handy.

I've holidayed in WA a couple of times (mainly Perth) visiting friends and can't understand why anyone would want to leave that beautiful paradise of a place...Then having said that you can't beat SE Queensland either

What was the reason for Ipswich/Toowoomba areas, are you after acreage living? Still plenty of affordable housing outer southern suburbs of Brisbane which is only 30 - 40 min to gold coast beaches, 30 mins to the CBD, 30 mins to the Bayside if you have a boat. However if you are after acreage they are around but you will pay more here than Ipswich/Toowomba areas. We moved here about 10 years ago from the beautiful south coast of NSW and dont regret it a bit. I am a builder and have always had plenty of work here. Good luck with your decision.

SE QLD is the beez neez, I love the Gold Coast and I'm never going to leave. I've been to Toowoomba, Ipswich and Brisbane and they are great, but are nothing compared to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

GC is tops but IMHO i think its a tad over rated. But i do agree about the Sunny coast, i love it we are there almost every weekend during summer.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Perth is pretty but... boring as anything. We aren't real beach people. We like hills, trees, parks, flowing countryside, historical buildings and culture/history. Yes there is some of that here but it only takes 10min to see it all. In europe we lived in the middle of a forest and temps there ranged from -5/-10 in winter to 30 in summer with a fair dose of humidity. During the summer here in wa it is like 40 everyday. It's like living in a microwave! We are looking for 1 acre and want to build a 300msq house on it and a 12x7m garage/shed. We like having a nice home, nice garden and our cars. We have and have had nice homes here but the blocks are getting smaller and smaller. Last one was 700msq but now having to look at smaller due to price 500msq for $230k! I don't like hearing my neighbours going for a .

We are looking at going over for a look soon and will consider more options so i thought i'd ask here and do some prior research.

We had thought of Toowoomba because it is large enough to have all facilities only 1 hour from Ipswich which is larger again. Brisbane can be done in 2hours and other major places like sydney are within 1000kms. From Southern suburbs to geralton is 600+k's away and not worth the trip IMHO.

Hopefully the info helps give some insight, keep the info coming.

PS Mayby someone knows a bit more about Highfileds estate outside of Toowoomba?

Thanks

What do you need/want to know mate?. I live like 10mins from Highfields.

If you want pics of the area or anything just let me know, I can take the missus and kids out for a drive when im home from work in 2weeks and take some shots for you. Its a nice area thats for sure, Big blocks, Woolworths Shopping Centre, BP Servo etc.. Yet still got a country feel to it. T-Bar is only 15mins away and most of that trip is 80km/h strech of road.

Oh god no. Not toowoomba. I go there for residential school (uni) once a year for a week and that's bad enough!

Come to Cairns mate. You'll love it =)

Charged Terra: That would be super May I ask your age? Because age does make a difference to a persons perspective and opinion. Plenty of work in the area? 80km/h? I can do that in 1st LOL I could put a powerglide in my ute and be done.

XR6 661: As said before we will consider other options. It is lifestyle we are after, not perving on 18yr olds. Can do that here when the missus isn't looking. If similar setup if possible near Cairns for same money and employment possibilities are good we will consider it. Any info?

If I had my time again, I'd head to either Cairns or Townsville.
We're just a bit too close to the mines/coal loading etc. Property prices around here are getting a bit far fetched for the average joe.

No worries mate. Yeah I'm 31 married with 2 kids. When I moved up here from Sydney for a more relaxed/quieter lifestyle I had no worries at all getting work. Only took me 4days and I had a job starting Monday

I guess it depends on what kind of work you want to do though???

Gotta love a Powerglide

Cheers

Cheers Adam, comparable situation here, but no kids. Can I ask what line of work you in? And suburb? Mayby PM if you want. Been checking out Cairns, Sorry not for me. Nice to see I believe but to touristy and only one CBD same as Perth. Also humid, dangerous creatures and stormy weather and pricey, Perth sounds beter. I'll do some research on Townsville now. Gotta love the net.

Whatever you do, DO NOT MOVE WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW.

So many drug fked losers running round here it ain't funny. In the middle of packing and moving as we speak.

My complex has been hit 5 times the last fortnight for break and enters, the real estate doesn't give an eff, and everyone is rude and arrogant as hell.

Rapid Axe: Where abouts are/were you? Sorry to hear about your situation.

Just checked out Townsville, not so appealing, pricey and dry. Guess everyone has their own opinions on what they like and don't. But thanks for the info everyone, rather hear it from people living there than a rep trying to promote something.

My brother made the move from Sydney to Redland Bay (S.E.) and loves it. The area is great !
He tells me the job market is good up there, but hed tell me anything to get me there aswell.

So whats the QLD job market really like in the current financial climate?, cause i too are considering a move.

No worries Bazza

Originally when I got to T-Bar i was working in the tyre industry as a maintance fitter for trucking companys, farmers, etc...

Now I work in the Oil & Gas Industry FIFO work, But will be going to our Head Office in Brissy soon. Currently in the proccess of looking for a house in Brisbane :togo: (so much for my relaxed lifestyle) but the things we do to further our careers hey. Plus the missus misses the city life. (Sydney girl all her life)

I live in the North Toowoomba area, Near Blue Mountain Heights. Its quiet enough expecially since nearly all my neighbours are over 50. lol

What kind of work were you looking at??
