"As revealed by*CarAdvice last year, Ford’s new*Edge SUV*will come to Australia in 2018 with a starting price of $49,990 with seven seats and a diesel engine. At that stage, however, its final local name was yet to be confirmed.
We can now exclusively reveal that model will be known as the Ford Endura, with the Edge badge already owned locally by Toyota. Indeed, the Japanese giant recently renewed its trademark to ensure it could not be lost to Ford. In going with Endura, Ford maintains the ‘E’ theme that runs across most of its global SUV line-up. Ford’s recent move from Kuga to Escape was made in a similar vein. Ford has cemented its move to the Endura name by registering it as a trademark. The trademark covers*a Class 12 classification, which includes: “Land motor vehicles, namely automobiles, trucks, sport-utility vehicles, and vans, and their structural parts and fittings.” As we confirmed last year, the Ford Endura local offering will include: Four*model range (Trend, Sport, Titanium, Titanium Plus) Priced from $49,990 to $75,000 Single 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, eight-speed automatic 2000kg braked towing capacity Seven seats and all-wheel drive across the range Ford Australia announced earlier in the year that the Edge won’t be sourced from China, which leaves the next likely option as the Canadian Ford plant, which currently produces Edge for the UK market. Ford Australia is staying mum on the naming though, with Ford Australia communications and public affairs director,*Martin Gunsberg*refusing*to comment on future names. “We have no update on any future model names at this stage,” Gunsberg said. That plant only produces five-seat versions of the Edge, but it’s expected this plant will take on the different body style offered in China, which accommodates seven seats in the Edge body. The UK and US market Edge measures in at 4778mm in length, with the seven-seat Chinese variant requiring an additional 70mm (4848mm). Unlike the Ford Territory, which offers a 2700kg braked towing capacity in all-wheel drive diesel specification, the Edge will only tow 2000kg, making the Everest the only option for buyers towing larger loads. Endura has heritage within the Ford family, being used in the past as a name for a selection of Ford engines — including one that once powered the Ford Ka." http://www.caradvice.com.au/548183/f...k/?ca_rd=route

So that's confirmed. the Territory name has come to a close just like Falcon.
Hurry up and get this here Ford your missing out on market share. looks like they are starting with diesel only. maybe they will expand to some of the petrol options later? before anyone complains towing capacity should not be an issue. IMO over 2 tonne you should be using Everest or Ranger anyway

Bevsta007..You would think the Titanium Plus would come with the V6 ? or at least the 2.7l ? To make it different to the lesser spec models ?
Australia seems to be the last market to get any new model/update ?

At an asking price of $49-75k I think they'll continue to miss out on market share...

Kind of agree.
I'm seeing a lot of new cars having the same engine, trans & suspension across the range. Spec between models seems to be cosmetic - larger wheels - leather seats - SAT NAV etc. Would love to the Sport model with 2.7 Ecoboost here! make a point of difference Ford nobody else is selling a car like this. I think the accountants are calling the shots these days - all too sensible

Ford have dropped the price of the Everest, except for the Titanium. Any idea on how many Titaniums have been sold? Landrover Series 5 starts at $65k coming June. It will be in a competitive market. Prado, Patrol, Landcruiser etc etc.

Probably Better than New Edge, that was a bit of a sore point for Ford in Australia.

Someone posted on that CarAdvice article that 'Endura' is the name of a new line of diesel engines, and that the Edge will be called the Endeavour (which is the Indian market name for the Everest) here.
Given that Ford have not officially confirmed the name, I guess that remains a possibility.

Ford have in the past trademarked names they don't use, to protect it incase they want to. Wait until Ford actually confirm it I think.

Is this just an Escape on a slightly longer wheelbase?

Its certainly not looking like a territory replacement, more like a hyundai sante fe competitor but more expensive. Looks like I'll be keeping my territory longer as the towing capacity of the new thing isn't enough. And no I actually still want something that drives like a car so that rules out all the narrow body ute based wagons.

Entirely different car. Escape is based on the Focus platform; Edge is based on the Mondeo platform.

I'll suggest it again, and some of you will be old enough to get it.

Seriously.. what a boring car this will be! Aside from quite a spiffy looking interior, the exterior looks quite bland, underscored by what looks to be a VERY boring singular powertrain. With no differentiation in terms of fuel type and performance options, this will be one boring vehicle, so much so that people are very likely to overlook it altogether. A very disappointing outlook for the Australian spec of this car. Too late, and too underdone. Poor effort Ford!

Endura??
the closest word in the dictionary is Endure 1. suffer (something painful or difficult) patiently. "it seemed impossible that anyone could endure such pain" synonyms: undergo, go through, live through, experience, meet, encounter; More 2. remain in existence; last. "these cities have endured through time" synonyms: last, live, live on, go on, hold on, abide, continue, persist, remain, stay, survive; lets hope this doesn't suffer painfully through its existence.... edit: Endura a hunger strike against evil carried out by the Cathari and usually leading to death

Exactly
And surely Ford could use; If you did not have an EGO you'd just be like the rest Endura .

So if you got an Ego, you better keep it in good shape.
A Ford marketing dream that would be an instant hit, but I doubt if they could be that imaginative, and the connectivity generation would not understand. |

The article and the colour they picked make it loom a bit dull, In person I believe they will look a lot better. The sport model has black grill and larger wheels, even if we didn't get it, It wouldn't be had to accessorise to that spec. but I note you have a Kuga?

I certainly do :-). Lovely car too. It was seriously lacking in top in power when stock, an issue only because it's an auto, which chooses to rev high under hard acceleration. On light-medium throttle it has always been brilliant. A few minor mods has made it much faster, while also enhancing the light throttle driving experience.
I really don't know why Ford replaced the 2.5T, as it is far more capable than the 1.6 ecoboost, and with minimal effort can easily match the 2.0L for performance and also get close to its economy. The 5-cylinder sound is also throatier and more satisfying IMO. And now, it seems, Ford won't even be offering petrol-power on the Endura, which is a real shame. Petrol engines now have superior reliability and long-term ownership costs over diesel, and their real-world economy discrepancy is negligible. Please Ford, give us a higher performance petrol option!
