Just a reminder to everyone in WA that as of January 1 we no longer need to display Registration Stickers on our vehicles.
Here's a link to the official media statement from earlier in the year. http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/19943.asp I searched for an older thread on this but couldnt find one.

Personally, i stopped displaying my new stickers earlier this year and just kept the sticker and the reciept in the glovebox. surprisingly never got picked up. They're pains in the *** to get off sometimes.

What a crock, they reckon it's going to save about 400k a year in producing stickers, like they pay for them. The cost is passed onto the consumer in the licensing fee and what's it cost 1 maybe 2 bucks at the most.
Me, I'd rather have my sticker so I remember it's due. The car yards are going to be in a mess having to check every car that comes in for rego and all their cars on the lot without stickers will require a lot of manual checking.

Car yards usually de-register everything anyway. It gives them a little bonus and they need a RWC when they sell the car anyway so they just add 6mths rego to the price when they sell. Otherwise a car that sits there for a while is just costing money for no reason. Now just get rid of front number plates (yeh like that is going to happen) |

I dunno, i kinda like them. I have something to show for my 800 kangaroo and emu dollars, it reminds me when its due, i can show people i'm not a povo criminal because i abide by the law, plus i can spy on other people's cars and find out what year they were made. I'm still dirty that they took the kerb weight off them however.

Nothing. Your rego laws apply to your rego regardless of where you are. |

So how do they know if a car is licensed or not?
Does this mean they have to type a car rego plate into there on board computer everytime they want to look up details of a vehical???

They started trialling it a couple of years ago on booze buses during blitzes, and as far as I've heard, they've already been using it actively for some time now. Cheers :

yeh so a police car at the traffic lights has to type in every single cars number plate to see if the car is registerd!?
Its because of the 3% cuts all WA Govt' departments have to impose aye? I bet the sticker maker is SPEWING!!!

How come you've booked it in? Have you owned it longer than 12 months? If you've owned it longer than 12 months and it has an immobiliser then all you need is the current plates, last years and current rego papers, front up and pay the new rego fees. Easiest place in aus to change cars over. Then once it's in WA rego you never need one of those bloody RWC's again. Putting it over the pits though is a hassle. Because they're on the payroll they dont miss much. |

I dont even think they need to type in your plates, There camera that the cops have can read your plates and if anything comes up it will let them know.
