The engine warning light has come on. The car hesitates under acceleration. It seemed to begin after mistakenly putting a couple of litres of 5% ethanol fuel in. Any ideas?

I wouldn't have thought 5% would bother it too much, maybe a crappy lot of fuel, did you buy it from the usual place you fill up at ? Maybe give them a call and see if any others have been complaining of issues :( If all else fails try disconnecting the negative battery terminal and leaving it off for a half hour or so, then reconnect and take it for a drive for 15 mins or so, this will reset the ECU (PCM) Hopefully this will help

Thanks. I didn't get fuel from normal place.
You'll hear from me, good news or bad. |

I did the battery off thing. All seemed well at first (the light was still on), but after stopping for a while, the hesitancy returned though not as bad.

You're probably going to need to have a diagnostics check done on it to see if it throws up any error codes, it may just have been the fuel causing the engine light to come on and it might need to be reset. Hopefully it will improve when you refuel but I would suggest not running it on anything less than 95 RON if at all possible.

It sounds like it needs a real good service if the plugs haven't been replaced after that many k's You might want to consider replacing the leads as well at the same time, I would still be having the engine light issue checked first because it may be something else causing the problem, such as a failed oxygen sensor. It would obviously make more sense to try and diagnose the problem before replacing parts unnecessarily, even though the plugs and leads will most likely need doing anyway

The 2L engine doesn't have spark leads. It's a coil on plug ignition system. Still wouldn't hurt replacing the plugs anyway since you've done so many km.
You should read the code via an OBD II scanner, which will give you the exact fault. Also, you will be able to reset the child engine light once the fault is fixed. |

Tried to remove a coil retaining bolt but it wouldn't budge. What do they use to fit them at the factory!!! Have to get my small socket set from work.
