Smile help me find a 7 seater

o/k people here is the deal

I have to find a 7 seater ( no bench seat ) to take the family around as most will know we have just had our 4th child and the EL is now not able to transport us

now I have a few reqs that need to be followed they are as follows

1... it must be a ford
2... it must be from a dealer
3... it needs to be over 8g and no more than 15g
4... in the above prices it needs to be on the road and the 15g needs to include 12 months full comp insurance
5... the car needs to be in victoria

that's about all I can think of for now

thanks in advance

Jason

The only car I can think of is a Territory but doubt you're going to tick all the boxes with your selection criteria for one of them. Only thing I found apart from that is a Maverick Transit or Explorer and there aint much under 15gs.

Why don't you just buy a good wagon and have a 3rd row seat fitted? There are places around who will fit you a 3rd row and match the trim as well, it will look factory.

Territory is no good unless 2 of your children are not going to grow beyond 3 foot tall and have legs no longer than 12 inches . Unless some one in Victoria has an imported Windstar you are NOT going to tick all your boxes . The best vehicle in this class is without any shadow of a doubt the MPV ( Mazda was then 25 % owned by Ford ) and you will get an absolutely pristine low k one for 15K , and they absolutely crap all over the Odessey. Do not even contemplate fitting third row seats in a wagon if you love your kids , not the smartest thing to do putting them right in the middle of a crumple zone .

I've got 4 kids aswell, at the moment we had a BF2 Egas Wagon with a Seat in the boot, does the job well.

My next car will either be a Territory, Volvo XC90 or a Dodge Journey.

What do you want to hear? There is actually a model of ford that was built that you've never heard of, that is on the market for about 10k and has 7 seats?
It doesn't exist i'm afraid.
Territory is it.

Or Explorer.

Sorry for swearing

It's a Mazda Tribute and it is NOT I repeat NOT a seven seater . Infact it makes the Territory look positively spacious in the rear which it is NOT either .

1... it must be a ford (CHECK)
2... it must be from a dealer (CHECK)
3... it needs to be over 8g and no more than 15g (CHECK)
4... in the above prices it needs to be on the road and the 15g needs to include 12 months full comp insurance (ummm, well it's close!)
5... the car needs to be in victoria (CHECK)

Some things I think you forgot to include

6. Price needs to be AUD
7. Victoria must be Australia, and not Canada.
8. Must be RHD.

I'm a Ford man through and through however you're talking about a car for your family and you should be buying the best car meeting your requirements and then if you're lucky that might be a Ford. However you're really needing some form of people mover and once you actually see, drive and live with one the brand will be irrelevant once the practicality and peace of mind of simple things like seating eveyone comfortably, ease of movement between rows, load space remaining with all seats full etc is satisfied. Forget the brand and satisfy your practical needs first and foremost because it will be an expensive regret down the track.

If it's Ford it will only be a wagon with aftermarket third row or Terry 7 seater and both don't offer a relaxed seating position for kids above 10 in the third row, plus they will have to climb over the second row to get in while a people mover can offer an isle to move through.

Only touch a Grand Carnival. The 2.5L Rover motors are a POS and the 2.7L Hyundai motor is a bit gutless in teh SWB VQs.

The 3.8 in the Grand Carnival is a reliable unit if serviced on time every time.

the search took me in a totally different direction than I thought it would

I was lucky enough to have the pram for Chloe in the car when I visited some car yards today and I hate to say it the falcon wagon, terry and a few other cars did not have the room needed

just to put it into context I need to have room for the pram as well as bags etc for the rest of the family and well nothing in the price range and space fits

I find out tomorrow if the offer I made on a Kia carnival has been accepted

It's a 2005 model manual with 95thousand ks on the clock very clean and drove like a charm ( for a big van type vehicle )

thanks to all that have posted in here as it gave me new eyes to look at other brands and not be so one eyed as there is a great range out there

SX TX Territory is Probably best option

Look on eBay for seats and then re register via Vic roads

WHAT?

Seriously, do not buy a KV series Carnival. You obviously havent heard of the infamous 2.5L engine failures in this model???

Go for a VQ series from 06 upwards with the bigger motor, you should be able to pick one up privately for around $15k or less.

As above, DO NOT buy a GQ Carnival (early shape) or you will be in for a world of hurt. The Rover KV6 used in them is a time bomb waiting to go off.

The VQ Grand Carnival with the 3.8 V6 Lambda motor is the way to go. Those motors are bullet proof if they've always been serviced.

KIA badge is oval - so sort of ford-ish!

I have done quite a bit of research on them and the problems with the engine were in the pre 2003 models

I hope that the articals that i have seen and read are correct and have seen a press release on the issues as well from kia

I have looked into torago's as well and they are over priced and do not fit into the finance req

the oddesy looks to small with no space for prams etc

thanks again guys for the input and such

I have also found that kia are doing engine replacments on the carnivals even out of warranty period with a small cost to the owner If the unfortunate thing does happen

Those SSangyoung Stavic vans come in 4x4 turbo intercooled Diesel as well ;)

If I was looking for a people mover it would be a great buy if you could get past the looks and the badge. I would have the diesel in an instant...

And, caus they are ugly and not well known they are relatively cheap...

Good luck with it cos you will need it!

Anything with the KV6 engine is worth avoiding which includes upto 2006 facelift.

Here's some valuable info i found after doing a google search myself

Quote:
Hi there!
I have a Kia Carnival 99 model
Lovely car lots of room drives well comfi
but motor wise not reliable
I have had 3 motors in 2 years
The motors heat up and it blows all kinds of thing in them
if you choose to buy one make sure you look at the headlights if they are foggy or milky the motor is on its way out
Lots of condensation
If you do your reasearch you will not find many good things on carnivals.
Google it you will be surprised
Some people have not had any trouble with carnivals
My choice i would not buy another one again!
Good luck with what you buy...
