Default Loony dumps on XR's in news paper

Last week the Brisbane Sunday Mail carried a letter to the editor that had some criticisms about the road toll and young drivers in powerfull cars but also declared the XR6 as a "frightening death machine"!! As I could not let this go unchallenged, I wrote a reply that will be printed in the Brisbane Sunday Mail tomorrow.

An XR6 is a frightening death machine? It is is no more powerful than a XT! The XR6T I could almost understand and what about evo lancers, sti's and the list goes on. Should we all be driving camry's so that no young person can get behind the wheel of a performance machine? What happened to parents guiding their young and people taking responsibility for their own actions. If a young person is playing up in a car they can do just as much damage in a stocko lancer, corolla or mazda etc as they can a XR6. Maybe we should all be restricted to golf carts. The problem is I will then have to find a way to shoehorn a V8 into it, as others will!

how is a XR6 a death machine, its a stock engine, and it sits better on the road then most cars, its got abs, ebd and duel airbags, the falcon is one of the safest cars on the road. Those jap ricers, now they are unsafe with some have pretty dodgy mods and no airbags and crap crumple zones.

Some people just dont have a clue about cars.

Good onya mate for pointing out the truth.

Your always going to get morons who think they know everything. I've read enough of these letters, someone raving that V8's and V6's aren't required in this day when four cylinder cars are quite adequate to do what people need. Also that RWD drive cars are on a come back and that the world will now come to an end because these cars a death traps.

But this latest one is quite funny. I just ignore these people as I don't have time for these idiots. But I would like to see what is reaction is when he reads your reply.

Hmmm, i wonder what experiance he based this assumption on, i wouldn't dignify this fool with a reply, let him stay inside and rot while he peers through the curtains too see if the death machines are coming to get him.

You have to wonder where some people get their ideas from. A regular XR6 is no more powerful than my futura wagon, and I know I feel a whole lot safer in my large 6 than I would in a small 2 or 4 if I were to be in a collision. Even looking at something like the NRMA's open road, the used car guide gives safety ratings - the BA gets the highest rating of 5, whilst things like Hyundai's get a 1, the '02 and '03 Corolla gets a 3, Lancer's get a 3 and so the list goes on.

I know my car has the necessary equipment and power to get me out of trouble if need be, and my kids will be driving a larger car when the time comes too.

What a moron and why pick the XR6 anyway as there are ture 4 door sports cars to pick from ,it's good to see some people opening their mouths without knowing what they are saying as it gives us something to laught about and take the ИИИИ out of.

About time someone finally spoke up!
The XR is a frightening death machine.

Have you ever had one dropped on YOUR head?

Sadly this letter wrtiter was dropped on his head at birth, and is now worried about sch things.
You may have read other letters by this same patient.

"Pianos, fightenig death instruments" (when dropped from 5th floor)
"bank safes, frightening death security devices" (when the floor below them gives way)
"Fridges, frigtening death furniture" ( when pushed out of 3rd floor windows)
"elephants, frigtening death zoo exhibits" (this piece lead to the eradication of multi story zoos)

Msot of these were published in the "Bedlam Institure of the insane Journal" but obvioulsy this one got sent in to wrong paper.

Its funny how the death of the Phase 4 was caused by a newspaper too. Ridiculous to think the paper would print this garbage. No offence to XR6 owners, but put simply its a taxi with some style! :

Cars have only got more safe over the years.....the reality is the performace arms of Ford and Holden (FPV & HSV) are still making the cars with approximatly the same power as their cars in the 1970's. They are just much more comfortable and easier and safer to drive.

This clowns best described as an oxygen theif. :ticking:

Guys.......

First rule of journalism, if there are no stories write something controvertial and wait for the reaction.

The best thing to do is ignore these NNNNNNN (I do my own NNNs now). Ask yourself this. What was in last wednesdays newspaper? No idea? Neither has anyone else. On the other hand, if the same subjects are in the paper every second day because of replies to the editior etc. then people are going to take notice.

You cannot win. They are the publishers and will either cut you the shreds with their replies or "forget" to publish yours.

He's probably a fudge packer who only likes little cars like the daihatsu copen, and feels intimidated by anything bigger than that. Not only that, but it was probably an xr6 that he bashed his head on when he was arrested for inappropriate behaviour (read george michael) in a public toilet. Total idiot.

I reckon he was referring to the XR6T, not the na XR6. You must admit though, a boosted, worked XR6T in the hands of a young inexperienced driver is asking for trouble, especially now as prices are falling and they are becoming more and more affordable to younger drivers. It is inevitable that in the coming years they are going to develop a notorious reputation, just like the VLT has. However it isn't just an issue with Fords, but with any high performance car be it Holden, Ford, Nissan etc etc..

Not that I'm agreeing with what this person has written, but I don't think he meant that XR6's are death machines full stop, but rather in the hands of young and inexperienced drivers.

What a tool, a Daihatsu Charade is more dangerous than an XR6, both cars can go 110kmh in a 50 zone, but the chance of making around the next corner in the XR6 are much higher than in the Charade.

Stupid journalist, if you dont know what your talking about, dont opwn your ИИИИИИИИИ mouth.

Any car is a death machine in the wrong hands. The problem is that people are being taught to drive with their eyes firmly fixated on the speedo without being taught car dynamics. It's not just the learners either, existing drivers are being brainwashed to forget their driving skills in the belief that staying within the speed limit is the ultimate answer to being safe on the roads. Any halfwit in a beige Camry can be a time bomb on wheels driving under that misguided belief.

How about instead of blaming the car they blame the person behind the wheel operating the car. A car dosn't magically run itself off the road.
Do these people even drive anymore don't most of them get driven everywhere.

I got my EF XR6 a year after I got my License. I learned on an EB Fairmont, and a Corolla, so I was used to the power. My EF had ONE airbag, ABD (nothing else in terms of modern gadgetry), yet when I did have an accident in it (not my fault) I was not damaged at all. The E Series guys can say how many more Kilowatts the XR6 had over a GLi, and today, that car is still more powerful than a 2004 Commodore.

They weren't calling 'sports cars' death traps then. I remember when I was a kid, we were allowed to have something called "fun". I don't know what this means now...
