Default 3 strikes and he let himself out

SA is in the midst of a horrendous spate of accidents and fatalities with the road toll up 20 on this time last year.
Today is Fatality Free Friday.

And then this...

Protocol need's to be changed here, where if/a driver is caught deliberately disobeying the road rules in a set/given amount of time, i.e, in as many hr's then he/she need's to be reprimanded and taken into custody.

He was given enough chances and it was just very fortunate that in this instance he didn't harm any innocent people, throw the book at him now, (very unlikely though as he is probably a hard done by individual with a troublesome past that we need to feel sorry for), it's time that people in this circumstance like this individual take responsibility for their own actions.

It's these exact term's of event's that I personally would not like to be a police officer, as their hands are tide and I'm sure they would love to take the matter into their own hands like the good ol days.

People like these should be be forced to attend road fatality accidents and view the deceased, quite sure they will change their attitudes.

As much as many of us would like to think that is true, I somehow doubt it.
The 10-14 year olds who destroyed a stolen car in Qld and killed one of their mates are currently sending selfies from their hospital beds...

Actually both that were/are hospitalised were doing it and a similar thing happened just recently too after a 21 year old woman was killed. Sadly for many life is all about the next social media post and if someone gets killed along the way so be it.

The problem is, its normally an innocent life, or lives that get destroyed.

Losing a licence isn't a big enough deterrent, as these types of people will just continue to drive anyway. Fines don't necessarily work, because they simply don't have the money to pay the fine so end up on some 'hardship payment scheme' or picking up roadside rubbish instead. Is jail time the answer? Pretty sure they are overcrowded as it is. Unfortunately lockup is the only solution because you have to physically force some people to stop abusing the system.

as for the road toll in SA, I don't think we are any worse than any other state when it comes to road manners and driving behaviour. You only have to be a casual observer of any roadway or intersection to get an idea of how selfish some people are. Running red lights, sometimes blatantly and not even caring or speeding up. Lack of signalling. Lack of paying attention. Failing to move over for emergency vehicles. Unroadworthy cars. Road rage.
So many people just live in their own little bubble.

anyway, rant over. The original story, while frustrating for authorities, is a little bit amusing, but its just pure luck that it didn't end in tragedy by the sounds of it.

I saw this the other day, and I have no issue with it. There is no mention of low level infringement. They seem to be targeting high level stuff and business paying for their drivers. This is fine by me.

the thing i'm not ok about is the fact that its included in the budget. do they want people to stop or not? there seems a conflict here. if people are deterred, and do the right thing, then there is a massive shortfall in the budget, which affects the everyone. Including infringements as part of the budget is stupid.

Part of the budget in Victoria too.

From The Age.

Quote:
Victorians are set to cough up $785 million in fines to bolster the state government’s coffers in the coming financial year.

Red-light and speed cameras are set to hit $371 million, while police on-the-spot fines will generate $150 million in 2018-19, Tuesday’s state budget has revealed.

Non-traffic and court fines are expected generate a further $124 million.

The budget showed toll road fines are forecast to hit $140 million, up from an estimated $119 million in the current financial year
.

Personally I try to pay as little tax as I legally can...

Without knowing the exact figures I'd say the number of speeders caught in the ranges mentioned in that article would be small in comparison to the sub 15km over speeders, so i think they'll look to concentrate their efforts around road works or where they're doing a roadside stop with red and blues flashing, getting the people who aren't breaking the posted limit but who may have ignored the temporary reduction.
Not that I'm condoning speeding in those situations, just that 60 in a temporary 25 zone will see many In the over 30 bracket without even realising it.

SA drivers can prepare for even more road work signs left long after work has been completed...
It's no coincidence that they ramp up their efforts around tax time.

Yes I think so, I thought I was hard person who could handle anything in life but in my last career attending train accidents sure changed me forever, believe me viewing dead people with grotesque injuries is something else which actually has impacted on my life.
I'm sure my previous statement will stand for most people.

Cheers.

Well not for these low life disrespectful kents, they don’t give a rats and will even probably post it to Facebook to show off but hey what do I know. My 20 years working for DOJ have turned me from an optimist to a realist. Sorry.
