Thumbs down 2.5 T/D D40 Navara

been driving the company car for the last few day's. new model navara T/D 6 speed manual (40,000 k's). what a gutless hunk of metal. the lag is absolute bullcrap, there is nothing under 2200, that's when the turbo decides to wake up.

the specs are as follow's

126kw@ 4000
403nm@ 2000

thats funny because if you nail the throttle @ 2000 there is that 200-300 rpm before you can here it spool up and something acually happens. also over 3500 it runs out of steam yet peak power is @ 4000 ???? i might add it will rev to 4500. dont try to take off from a hill if your not @ 2500 and slipping the clutch because it will stall (like it did today........ twice lol : )

also the gear ratio's are way to tall from 3-6th, yet 1-2 is way to low

eg, come up to a corner at say 30k's, now if you choose 3rd to accelerate out its at about 1500revs (so no boost, change to 2nd and you lock the *** if you dont blip the throttle because its about 3500.)

what are your thoughts?

What a load of garbage, mine just won the DYO class at Heathcote raceway.
It ripped easy burnouts and does 18.3 second quarter. (2 Tonne 4 cylinder)
Learn how to drive a Diesel.

I have to disagree,I went in falcon coupes navara at the drag day,and I must say I was impressed at how quiet it was,and in performance it actually surprised me..

well it must be vastly different to my neighbours new Navara.
The noise level is ridiculous, at its worst when it has a slight load eg. small hill
It is louder than a F250 7.3 diesel by far.

Sounds like yours is a dud, ive been in a 07 2.5ltr Turbo Pathfinder, which is a Navara but in wagon form, and its bloody awsome, quiet, very smooth and pulls very well, handles a caravan no worries!

My "sister" company in NZ has one of these. I had it for 3 days, then drove it from Timaru to Christchurch in Sept this year, and fairdinkum, have only just stopped raving about it!
Absolutely pulled like a train, comfortable, SO easy to drive, and totally reversed my anti jap diesel thinking for good!

The New Triton's are a fair bit more gutsy compared to the Navara.

Though, I haven't towed anything with either so it would be interesting.

I had an ST-r 2004 model for work. It was a great car.

Mate has the new one ST-X i think. I wasn't as impressed with its offroad capabilities at all, and the price i thought was a bit rich.

Yeah well seeing that I was in the blue (LOSER) Xr6 and got done by a bloody 4x4 in the DYO .... got pipped at the post first run!

For there intended purpose, they can't be beat! The new generation turbos are brilliant! If you want to go fast get an X5 or F6X. Just dont tow or go off road.

As stated ...... learn to drive a deisel & 4 x 4.

Well what can I say then ..... Youv'e done so many miles, worked on every sort of car, been every where man, grown up with 4x4's and like so many 'P's out there just are the best and knowing of drivers. Sorry I musn't know what I (or those above) are talking about and I do appologies.

Me? Over 40, have driven a "Dont know" km's, owned 5 brands of diesels including Toyota, Nissan, Ford (new Ranger at the moment) Pajero, Land Rover. All 4x4's by the way ..... Grown up in the bush and lived all over Aust moving back to the city before you were born ........ SO dont come the "I know all because I am 19 and driven heaps bit!"

You asked for opinions and thats mine. You just need a bit more practice ......!

I was in the market for a NOT a prado/hilux diesel 4wd about 7months ago, I loved the power & styling inside & out of the navara/pathy but the engine noise inside the cab was horrible(maybe it was just that example but it was like they'd left out some sound deadening on the firewall or something), the seats were crap & the ergonomics were terrible, so I bought a mitsubishi, motor & gearbox not as quick but most other things much better

ef futura,
my navara is a little peaky around the 2200rpm mark also, just learn the car, remember that it isnt a 4.2 td cruiser, you only have 2.5 l to play with, but you have 6 gears to help you along.

cheers, justin.
