It is well documented now about the Sprint being garaged with the auto woes. I am at a crossroad and would love some opinions on what I should do.
This is NOT a technical thread & I dont wish it to become one, more a suggestion thread that will get my grey matter working The options I see at the moment is 1) fix the current auto 2) get a manual 3) get another auto that has added extra toys attached I am also thinking of a few other mods cosmetically. Before anyone says you cant do that to a Sprint, I can & I dont need resale value ..... she will never be sold : I will make this a poll..... we havent had one in a while :P |

It depends if you can be arsed to do the legwork to make it a manual. If you want my opinion Lisa - do it. I've only driven an Auto Sprint, but a Manual one would be unreal. The Auto is rooted, and compared to a Manual, more worry than they are worth.
Make it a manual. Andrew.

Generally I'd usually say "manual, manual, manual!" but with a genuine Sprint, it's a tougher decision. But as you said, you don't care about resale, so if you want a manual, definitely do it! What I can say is an e-series with a manual behind it is great fun. Even a complete POS like mine (it looks alright, but mechanically needs pretty much a complete overhaul) is great fun to drive, mostly due to the 5 speed. The conversion isn't too difficult. I doubt the 8s would be much harder to convert than the 6s. The main issue is sourcing the parts in the first place, as V8 manual transmissions are expensive and hard to find.

I always stick to my guns and vote manual! Who cares about being original, I've seen EL GT's with superchargers bolted on and as you already said you dont care about resale so go for it.

I say go for a manual, but forget the standard weak 5 speed, and go for a tremec.
TKO or T56 with a hydraulic clutch would be the pick... If you are willing to spend that much... What do you want to do cosmetically? some things would be ok, but others wouldn't imo... I.e. an EB GT bodykit is just plain wrong on a sprint...

Not sure Sorted, although I have been told that a 5spd out of a XR6T will bolt straight up ...... have no idea how good they are though......

I say keep it auto..... yes, manuals are fun, but so are tough autos.
If it was anything other than a Sprint I'd say go manual, but it's about as collectible as a non-GT E-series can get. |

stick with the auto if you trick it up a bit it will eat any manual, it comes down to what you want to do, if you want to do burnouts and drifts ect go a manual, if you want to rip down the qtr go an auto. if your in the city too go an auto. everyone that says go a manual obviously doesnt travel around the cities much stopping at traffic lights every 500m.

i do, sorta bites ***, i end up sitting in first all the time, my ride is a ED Fairmont. you hear my exhaust a mile off leaving in first you get this massive crackle part of the fun really,
but back on topic, being a sprint you gotta keep it as a manual, be a crime against nature to mess with it |

Rob's Official Cosmetic Mod Suggestions - respray hot pink, fluro yellow spinner wheels, massive prelude/lancer bodykit (if it doesn't scrape everywhere, you're not trying hard enough), HUGE spoiler.. for downforce you understand, and go for a bright red interior.
Screams class. |

I have a few mates who are into the old car restoration bit, and they will all tell you to keep it original. Once you start barstardizing it, it will not be the same. I also think you would regret it in many years to come.

Id personally leave it a manual. At the end of the day, its a Sprint, should be as it was from factory. If you want to mod it, shoulda just bought an ED XR8?
I wouldnt do anything that cant be reversed. |

Hehehehe at the thought of traffic lights, the nearest is 80 odd K's away in Dubbo ;) On the trip down to Bendigo was the first time my daughter had driven through lights &/or a roundabout and she's had her 'L's' since November
Yes this is true but said in jest ....... I am a fair dinkum country gal ...... we leave the dirt road & its 100kph into town all the way Quote:
I am taking all the suggestions seriously, once I have decided what to do there will no doubt be a tech thread : Last edited by MotherNatureVer2; 08-05-2008 at 08:46 PM. Reason: typo |

I'd stay with auto, manuals are good for a bit but you'll probably get sick of it fast + the ford clutchs are heavy bastards.

Pay parking ??????? LOL thats a funny notion :P
This is paradise if you dont mind the life on the land I personally love it & wouldnt change it for the world .... Except the price of fuel, lack of doctors & lack of mobile phone serivce :P A heavier clutch isnt a problem either, Hubby has a 80 series landcruiser, and I have my MR licence so Im used to a heavy clutch. |
