Collapsable steering shaft, seat belt pre tensioners, 3rd seat belt in rear in the ED, head rests, Fiberglass bit in front and rear bumpers (part of crumple zone?) Theyre all saftey features.

But yeah they may be heavy but theyre solid. would rather be in a ford if i was in an accident

Interesting that it rates the e-series more dangerous to other cars than the XE/XF.
Would love to see the rating of the XW-XC danger to other cars.

yeah but in the performance in preventing serious injury to the driver the XF was one star less than an EA so the e series are stronger than the x series,,

but there not stronger than a little suzuki 4wd drive though,,saw an nc i think it was run into the back of one of those little suzuki 4wd's,,did nothing to the 4wd but ****ed the front end of the nc,,about $1000 worth of damage,,the 4wd owner laughed and drove off..

I would assume its based off rating compared to other cars of the same year.
If they were rated compared to todays standard I would expect that they would be around the 2 star mark.

Weren't the EA's the first falcon with a full crumple zone on the front, hence more protection than the XF for the driver??

I haven't read the site yet, but I'd say they're all compared to the safety technology available at the time. Airbags would probably just be available and affordable, but not included, therefore for its age, it was down a star, but would still fare better then an EA.

Oh God,

I knew she was not all that safe but now I've just found out HOW unsafe my rolla is...

2 stars - worse than average
2 ticks - much better protection for other drivers than average

This is because my car will be written off while the other driver is perfectly fine, not a scratch on him. In fact, my car is so nondescript in an accident that he will think my car was a speed hump and continue on his merry way.

Ok time for me to finish off the rolla's issues, register her and sell her on. I've got three kids who are growing out of the car anyway... I'm sure someone will love her just as much as me... : I'm going to shed tears if a P plater with no brain comes anywhere near her! She's my baby!

Bring on an E series for lil ole me.

There was a thread on this when the "howsafeisyourcar" first came out.

The site is based on real word data from insurance companies, etc. So the reason why an EA may be more safe than an EB/ED is because in real life it has been involved in less fatal accidents.

I spose they're broken down too much to be on the road and in an accident.

i think it might be compared with the other cars of their time, ea would be a bazillion times safer than a VN - whereas the VR had an airbag where the ED didnt - hence it probly scored its lower rating???

just a guess

Front ends in cars are always softer than the rear. Go to the wreckers and see how many cars with banged up fronts there is, but then notice how few there is with banged up asses. These cars have to be hitting something, but where are all the cars they hit up the bum?

More than likely. Since the EB2 and EDs had more sportier models available, which probably encouraged more spirited and stoooooopid driving.

Also a possibility, a car not on the road, cant hurt the driver, but can become an obstacle for others, hence the possibly high aggression rating.
