Hi all,
Got a minor issue with the TDCi which has been annoying me for a few days now.. When in 1st or 2nd gear the car starts choking\misfire (not sure if thats the right term) when i put my foot down.. if i drive it a bit smoother it drives fine.. Its only when i punch it off the line and when in 2nd gear it chokes and sort of pulls you back before the turbo then spools up and then its fine.. it doesnt happen in any of the other gears.. Ive noticed it happens more often when the car is cold, when the temp gauge is at just under 90degrees i dont notice it so much.. Any one have any ideas as to what it could be? bad fuel? air intake? Hope someone can help thanks, Loris. |

check your water seperator filter, it will reduce fuel when near full..
allso look at the particulate filter it may be blocked unable to self clean.. better still take it to ford.

Here is the picture of the TDCI engine bay and fuel filter sits up front (circled).It has a drain nipple (arrowed)
The idea being to slacken the nipple till fuels drains out and becomes clear (free of water). Attach a clear plastic hose to reduce risk you get air in the filter. Trouble is the manual recommends you then bleed the whole system by sucking fuel into the filter from the tank.(special ford pump) Sorry will not let me upload pic at the moment. so the engine light came on today.. somethings not right.. car seems to drive fine except for the issue stated above..
Now that the engine light has turned on is there any other reasons on what the problem could be? I have got the car booked in for Monday.. Hopefully its nothing serious. |

At least now the mechanic can find out what the engine management says it thinks is wrong. Hopefully not fuel contamination.
The Code readers sell for around $100 each these days and may be worth investing in one if most of the familys cars are post about 1998. |

My mate has a code reader.. and we plugged it in and found 3 errors
p0104 - mass or volume airflow intermittent b1080 - unknown body dtc p0001 - fuel volume regulator control circuit/open Anything i can check before monday would be good. Thanks |

just am update it ended up being the EGR valve which needed replacement..
uncommon issue apparently especially only after 20,000km |

I know this is an old thread, but to drain the water from fuel filter without replacing it, do I have to bleed the any air out, or is it just simply opening the drain nipple and letting the water out?

light the ignition "don't" start, open nipple and spray the water out.
