Default Supercharged 2010 GT

Mods please delete if this is a re-post, haven't seen it so far...

http://www.caradvice.com.au/32633/20...-coyote-spied/

What is that to the right of the rear wheel in the first photo?

***EDIT: My bad didn't realise you could click on the image to blow it up... definitely a GT badge... Was shaking my head thinking that it surely doesn't say Supercharged? and it doesn't! lol

Quote:
Up until now, Ford haven’t attempted to do anything too serious to the current 5.4-litre ‘BOSS’ V8. The reason behind the delay is the impending Euro4 emissions cut-over, due on July 1 next year. The current BOSS V8 will not meet the Euro4 standards, meaning there is little point doing any further work on it.

Instead, insiders have told CarAdvice that Ford Australia will use a US-sourced 5.0-litre V8. Featuring 32-valves and an aluminium block, the engine will be significantly lighter than the current offering.

The best news of all though is that we believe FPV is strapping a supercharger to the engine to give it the extra kick in the pants needed.

Although Ford are being very cagey about the work on the new engine, our spy photographer says that this thing was fast, very fast. It accelerated from a standing start not far from where he was and he said that not only was the supercharger whine loud, the acceleration was phenomenal.

As you can see from the photographs, a small section of the car-bra has a large intake for the supercharger.

FPV General Manager, Rod Barrett indicated in a previous press conference that FPV would assemble the engine locally - much like the current ‘BOSS’ arrangement. This would give FPV, which has codenamed its project Miami, the perfect chance to attach a supercharger to really get things moving.

We can expect the upcoming GT to give the HSV Clubsport and GTS a decent run for its money. The engine, code named Coyote, should produce at least 300kW. From there, the supercharger should help it bring power and torque up to HSV beating levels.

CarAdvice will keep you posted as news comes to hand. Miami, here we come!

June next year is the word on the street. If FPV finally make a factory supercharged GT, it will be going on my birthday wish list. Hopefully they will bring the tear drop XR headlights back with it

Awesome stuff!

Good to see that while it still an American engine it will be assembled here. I suppose it will satisfy some for an "Aussie" V8.

Quote:
With over 60 per cent of FPV sales leaning toward the V8 engine, FPV has been desperately in need of an engine capable of taking on the ever expanding offerings from HSV.
Yeah, because HSV offer you a Turbo 4 or a V8, whereas FPV only offer you a Turbo 6 or a V8. And FPV only match HSV for sales, so this new engine will definitely help FPV catch up. Well, I suppose HSV do have a diesel in the works.

There was some serious limp wristed comments on that caradvice blog. Seems like a new type of cultural cringe to me besides, this new V8 will boost sales.

It will be interesting to see what actually happens. It would be good to see FPV stick it to HSV well and truly though.

I noticed too, it must be a prerequisite to have a chip on your shoulder to post comments on that site, except for those who are correcting thick people.

The may explain the lack of F6-E. If next year's GTx range are going to be a supercharged alloy V8 then the new GT-E will make the F6-E redundant.

This thing is going on my wish list for sure! hopefully looking to update the AU in 2011(even if the Mustang has to go). Starting to save as of NOW!. Not to go to far of topic, but with all the talk of a global platform, could Ford be sending the Falcon off on it's last HOORAH! with a bang.

Hey guys, might be a stupid question from someone that doesnt know much about charged V8s, but will it be a POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT type supercharger? Or just a centrifugal one?

Pretty sure it's a PD, but obviously can't confirm what type i.e. roots vs twin screw. I would imagine it's a quite a conservative set up for emissions runing 6 or 7psi, but even with that we are talking 370-380fwkw's (280-290 rwkw's) minimum.

If they do bring this out, I would say yes the f6 would be redundant, so I would think supercharged v8 and f6 can have a twin turbo, that would be rockin!

F6 redundant???? I will guarantee you that won't happen for a fair while yet..... Don't expect much change to the F6 next July, but yes, the S/C V8 will certainly put something positive back into the Blue Oval!

Yes there are a lot of people out there that have it in for the Aussie Falcon, particularly on that site. I can't quite get my head around that one? Some of those people haven't got the faintest idea.

An all alloy donk in a Falcon is going to be great, I can't believe that a S/C is on the cards as well. Lets hope they give the FPV front Bar a tweak whilst their at it.

I would have thought they might have blown the last of the boss'es just to generate some interest/sales before the new V8 lands on deck. Perhaps the "blown" spy shots are in fact a Boss with a YT (ADR) kit on board.... eh! anyone consider that

If the alloy donks is going to be S/C do you think it will be an option on the up-spec GTs (GT-P, GT-E) or be standard? I'm guessing GT N/A, GT-P S/C, and GT-E optional. Would make a a good separation of models and force people to pay top dollar if they want the blower.

Lets hope they don't bring out the GTHO badge.
