key fob programming

My battery is nearly dead in my smartlock keyfob bit, and it raised the question of if it actually died, and i couldnt get a battery for it as i dont have a spare.

So off i troddle to eBay, and i noticed two BA keyfobs... can these be programmed to suit my needs? Even though they have two extra buttons? Panic and an extra Door Lock/Open.

Or should i just get a normal ELish one, and be boring?

BA's use smartsheild, Eseries use smartlock, so i'd imagine its different.
But ofcourse i could be wrong

damn... i guess ill have to look for the ugly EL ones :( did i see somewhere someone made a flicky out one? like on highend cars?

giday dont know if this will help or not as i have a ef but when i got the car the remot would not work so i read the manual and in the ef's can read the remot by putting the ignition to accessory press and realease the demist button 3 times within 5 seconds the cars locks will operate to indicate its in learn mode then press the button on the remote the cars doors will lock and open twice this tells you the car is now programed to the remote turn the key off and use as i said i dont know if your models the same but as i understand it if im right the car will learn from your remote not the other way around so theareticly if your models like an ef it should learn from any remote i hope, hope this helps

i suppose i can always re-sell the remote if it doesnt work...

The AU2 -> onward remotes wont work on the earlier cars. They use a rolling code technology.

Something some of you may not know you can increase the range of your remote if you hold it at chest height and pointing upwards.

My friend who works in ford showed me this. He mentioned that the BF remotes are far better for range. That become a problem in the factory because they have a master remote to pop the boot lids of all cars when the ecu is in factory mode. They have this so the guys who fit the boots can pop them to adjust them to get them aligned properly. The problem was that the single remote was popping the boots of nearly all the bloodey cars in the factory. They had to work out how to hold the remote so they weren't as effectie and only popped the boots of a few cars around them. Intersting stuff.

Hi! I have a 2002 BA wagon and have tried the programming technique as listed in the manual without success. Will not go into program mode by using Ign ACC position and demist button 3 times. Any ideas???

Nice 9 year thread mine (1 week short, actually)! Too bad you got the thread for E series!

But keep trying as those instructions should work; you just have to get the button presses and timing spot on.
