Hackers stole the personal data of 57 million customers and drivers from Uber, a massive breach that the company concealed for more than a year. Read on:

Seems Uber is getting quite a reputation for being above the law (corparate governance) as the link states, it will be hard for Uber to explain this away imo. Mega fine coming for Uber?
cheers, Maka

You've only got to look at the clown they had in charge, and had to get rid of.
The unorthodox corporate culture & policy, both questionable, seem to be only the tip of the iceberg. |

Terrible ethics this company.
Does raise the issue that if Uber can't keep hackers out then what hope much smaller players in the digital landscape? |

Why would anyone act surprised at this?
Uber has not followed the rules EVER. The surprising part is that Governments just sit and watch instead of stopping them and making them obey the laws like us mere mortals have to. |

But how the hell in this digital age, would you ever know that all copies of the data have been deleted when it is so easy to make a zillion copies. Sounds like an inside job to me. Hmm... Not a bad way to get money out of a business tax free by paying a ransom to oneself in maybe untraceable Bitcoins. |

Too many of these companies are out of control, they get away with just about anything they want and nobody to keep them in check - this is nothing new.
Kind of like what's going on in Hollywood atm, now it seems some, both individuals and companies, will be held accountable. |

Not the first company to have this. Not the last unless digital security is taken seriously.
Australia seems to really bad for lacklustre security. When you consider people's Medicare data was hacked. I'd be more worried as that's 25% of someone's identity out there.

1. This is the information that UBER *told* us was taken .. 2. .. or this is the information UBER *think* was taken .. 3. They had a regulatory / legal obligation to report and didn't. 4. The information is potentially the start of an identify theft (at a minimum) .. social engineering for another system (linked by email or phone number), etc. |
